I would suspect the water pump, power steering noises are usually grinding sounds. Also if the belts shredded check behind ALL the pulleys for the reinforcing strands from the belts. Basing this on general car problems , not any actual Chevy.
Depends on which belt..if it's the alternator belt, out's just a matter of loosening 2 bolts on alternator, sliding alternator towards center of engine and removing belt. Installation is the reverse.
IF YOU LOOK CLOSE YOU ARE PROBABLY MISSING THE NUT ON THE VERY BACK OF THE PUMP. USUALLY HARD TO GET TO. YOU USUALLY HAVE A PIVOT ADJUSTMENT FROM THE FRONT SIDE (TOP), A SLIDER ADJUSTMENT IN THE 9 O'CLOCK POSITION FRONT SIDE, AND ANOTHER SLIDER ADJUSTMENT ON THE BACK.
