While driving the transmission shifts down to low without warning. I had the transmission looked at, had the computer board reprogrammed by Dodge dealer, had my mechanic check it out and nothing seems to correct the problem. I usually pull over and shift the car into neutral and then back into drive and it will go for a bit and then check engine light comes on. Get it home and it sits in the driveway for a day or two and then I go again and the engine light clears itself. It's a 99 Dodge Caravan 3 liter V6. Any ideas?

Ok,not really enough info to come to a proper solution. It sounds like you have a serious transmission problem. Could be the torque converter clutch or circuit. I really need to know what code is being set when the light comes on to narrow it down abit. If it's a reputible shop, they should tell you what code was found. Chrysler products have a long history of trasmission problems, ranging from internal malfunctions to pcm issues. Could be a simple re-flashing of the tramission pcm. Whatever the case,a flush will not fix it & the battery is pure coincidence. There's also the possibility it's a problem with the electronics for the engine. Being you need advanced diagnostic tools, I'd take it to the dealer or a very good shop. You can't fix this at home.

You need to get it scanned to see what those codes are. Autozone, Pep Boys and other big autoparts stores will usually scan for free. If codes don't tell you what is obviously wrong, get back to us with them & we'll help you out.

My 97 Q45 without warning stopped shifting into drive. There wasn't any slipping of the trans. Prior to the not shifting either what is it ???

You will need to get a good mechanic to look at this. This could have been caused by a few different things. A low fluid level, Worn seals, faulty valves or a mechanical issue inside the transmission. If you don't work on transmissions regularly it is safer to get a qualified mechanic to do it.

I just change my 07 dodge charger from a 2.7 to a 3.5 and i change the transmission to but my transmission want shift ...what do I need to do

Did you get the PCM updated to recognize the engine/transmission change? The on-board computer must be replaced or reprogrammed when the engine and/or transmission(s) are changed to a different type.

Warning lights are all coming on and it doesnt fill like car is shifting down into first after stopping it fill like car is staying in higher gear

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. It sounds like you have transmission problems. Get your computer scanned if the check engine light is on. If it is not down shifting, you need the transmission looked at. It may be a bad shifting solenoid. You may have damage inside the transmission. Make sure it has fluid in it and make sure it is not leaking fluid. Without looking inside, it is hard to tell.

When the transmission is shifting down when I am comming to a stop it shifts hard when it shifts into the lowest gear!

This is a symptom with many causes. Some are as major as a transmission rebuild and some as simple as a computer needing reprogramed or reflashed.have you changed or disconnected the battery?

Dodge dakota 2005 automatic transmission, when starting from a stop or low speed sounds as if it is low on fluid rpms high started doing this on tollway when pulling out from the toll both ????seems to...

Manually shift thru all gears up & down the scale. Try adding Motorcraft Additive Friction Modifier, available from Ford parts dept. This REALLY STINKS!!! Don't get any on you. Pour into trans fluid. Drive a few miles shifting manually thruthe gears, then do a normal start stop drive several times. This will luburcate trans, normally used for differential but has worked in automatic transmissions of all makes for years. Otherwise mechanical problem for transmission repair facility.

Truck will not shift out of low gear no prior warning at all

You either have a vacuum leak somewhere, or one of the sensors/switches down in the transmission is bad. It may even be that the torque converter lockup switch went kaflooey on you.

Here's the worst case scenario: have you pulled the transmission dipstick? It should be pink or red-pink in color. If it looks muddy and has flakes in it, and even worse smells like cat urine, your transmission has died on you.

Take it to a reputable shop and have them run a diagnostic on it. Western Auto should do that for free if you ask.
