Car alarm goes off for no reason

I locked my car using the key fob (press once - locked. Twice - set alarm). About 25 minutes later my car alarm started going off. I thought someone had bumped my car, so I went outside and turned it off. Another 25 minutes pass and it starts going off again! I checked all my doors and trunk to make sure each was securely shut and locked again...alarm went off again. The third time I didn't lock it using the fob...just the power lock button inside the door which seemed to work. Next day at work I am having the same problem with the alarm...what the heck is going on? And it happens whether I press the fob once or twice.

SOURCE: 2005 Hyundia Elantra alarm goes off for no real reason

When a battery starts to go bad it will set the alarm off constantly. Check the date on your battery and if it's between 3 and 4 years old most likely this is the cause. I had it happen before.

SOURCE: Alarm goes off for no reason.

this could be a couple of minor things which we can check first, open and close each door to see if they all operate the courtesy lights, open the trunk and push the trunl light button to ensure it is switching off. there may also be a button under the hood. lastly check the glove box button is turning off the glove/jockeybox light when it is closed. if any of these fail, that is the button that needs to be removed and inspected. Good luck

SOURCE: Alarm Issues

I have been having this same issue for the past 6 months. So far no one can give me an answer that solves the problem. I have done several things unsuccessfully 1) changed the battery (still happens) 2) flipped the valet toggle switch under the steering column (still happens) 3) I lock the doors using the automatic lock button on the driver and/or passenger door (the alarm will not self-activate and go off, but this still doesn't solve the root problem with the alarm)

SOURCE: !991 buick park avenue. the trunk fills with water

There is no drain plug. For the leaks be certain to investigate: sunroof drains, taillight seals, and the trunk seal. Many trunk seals actually channel water into the trunk. New designs are available on many GMs.

Testimonial: "Have been told different stories by two mech'a one said no drain plug the other said he removed the plug to drain the water?/?"

I assume the factory alarm was somehow bypassed when they installed the remote start is there a way I can make the factory alarm work when the doors are opened without key,?

To arm content theft alarm.
1. Open the door.
2. Lock the door with the power door lock switch or
the remote keyless entry transmitter. The
SECURITY light should flash.
3. Close all doors. The SECURITY light should go off
after approximately 30 seconds. The alarm is not
armed until the SECURITY light goes off.

If a locked door is opened without the key or the remote keyless entry transmitter, the alarm will go off. The headlamps and parking lamps will flash for two minutes, and the horn will sound for 30 seconds, then will turn off to save the battery power.

My alarm goes off intermittently

Try resetting the alarm, using the instructions given at the link below. I'll also copy the text here.

  1. Insert the ignition/door key in the door lock on the driver's- side door of your Mountaineer.
  2. Turn the key to the lock position.
  3. Turn your key to the unlock position.
  4. Turn your key to the lock position.
  5. Turn your key to the unlock position. Your alarm is now disabled. If your key fob works, you can also press the unlock or alarm-disable button on the fob.
  6. Start the Mountaineer's engine and allow the vehicle to run for at least 10 minutes. This will allow the alarm to relearn the default settings. You must make sure that you have disabled the alarm first, however, before you attempt to start the vehicle, so that the alarm will reset itself.

If these instructions don't work, you can try resetting the car's computer by unplugging the battery for half an hour. However, that will reset the keyless entry code, as you can see in the fixya article I link to at the bottom

How do I get my alarm system to chirp instead of beep when it goes off or when I lock my doors with the remote entry key fob?

Check to see if your vehicle honks when you press the "lock" button on your key fob. Press the "lock" button multiple times in a row. Many devices won't beep unless you double-tap the button after locking. If the horn doesn't honk, but the lights flash, your chirp feature is probably disabled.

Use your keyless fob and ignition key to enable the audible chirp. The process varies considerably on different makes and models. You must usually consult your owner's manual, a dealership or the alarm manufacturer for the correct process.

Panic switch

The alarm is armed if keyfob is used. So you must use the fob to disarm alarm first. So someone can not unlock and open door without keyfob or alarm will be set off.

Car alarm goes off when unlocking door

You will needs to think of it this way. Once you set your alarm it is looking for the corresponding signal to disable itself. That comes from the fob. If you don't use the fob and just use the key, the alarm system is doing its job and alerting you since it has not received the disable command from the fob. Either lock the door with the button when you exit the car if you want to use the key or use the alarm fob. This will also happen if you use the car manufacturers fob to unlock the car if you have locked it with the alarm manufacturers fob.

Hope that helps - I have hidden all of my original car fobs to help alleviate this problem!
