I have a 1999 Hyundai Elantra. When we park it in the garage after driving there is a strong smell of petrol after a few minutes. We have no problem filling the car with fuel. The smell is coming from a small pipe hanging underneath the rear bumper (just behind the rear wheel) on the passenger side of the car. What is this and how can I fix the problem?

It's the fuel vent pipe, check and make sure it's vented and not stopped up with dirt or road debris

SOURCE: engine misfiring/fuel coming out exhaust

Sounds like you may need to inspect and replace your fuel line from front to rear. no other reason for your problem.

SOURCE: fuel problem

you might want to check your cabin air filter or the charcoal canister underneath the hood. it's purpose is to remove any excess fumes from the gastank. if it's broken or clogged that would explain why you smell gas in the car

SOURCE: gas odor when at stops sign or parking in garage

I recently had the same problem. It turned out that the fuel regulator on the engine at the left side just above the intake manifold had an intermitent leak. The gas leaking was not always visible so I had the regulator changed and that solved the problem.

Why would my 1995 toyota corolla be smelling like gas very strongly?

I would be considering if the fuel cap is pressurised, if it is then the charkhole canister breather my be blocked . but if it doent start straight away then u must be loosing pressure in the fuel system, does it make a difference how much fuel is in the tank ?it can be the fuel over flow pipe if you fill the tank right up and park it the fuel can swell, it exspands. I hope this is of some help. if not I would like to know were you park it ,how much fuel is in it , is the swell strong inside the car or under the bonnet , in the garage

Burn smell near tires and strange sound too

it will be one of two things...............either your brakes are sticking on slightly (frozen caliper) and its heating up because of the drag.................or the wheel bearings are shot and heating up when you drive it.................. that's all it can possibly be.
If you aren't good with the tools then its off to the garage for this issue.

Hi i have a Elantra 1.6 gls it starts fine in the morning and drive's fine. If i switch it of and come back after 10 minutes it strugle to start u have to play with the petrol pedal then it starts with...

problem is caused by ignition timing. your ignition timing is overly advanced.

have a mechanic check your ignition timing. adjustments in timing are done in distributor, camshaft pulley, and crackshaft pulley.

My engine is getting real loud...the temo guage

if your engine is getting hot after only a few minutews of running and it is getting loud than you probably have a cylinder head gasket problem. you should take it to a shop and have it checked.
