Typically, the oil change light comes on when the computer calculates you have 10% oil life left. If your oil level is ok, then you should have the oil changed soon, like within a week or so. If you don't really maintain the car well, I would get it changed right away, like the next day. Here is a video on why not to trust the oil change light.
Hi Nikki, What oil was low? Was it engine oil or gear box oil? Did the engine overheat? what exactly happened? Did you hear any strange noises when the engine stopped? Was the vehicle towed or was it on the back of a recovery vehicle? If it was towed, at what speed and over what distance? What engine is fitted? Is it petrol or diesel powered? if you got the oil changed a week ago,, the oil should be fine, I'm assuming the did the filter at the same time, if not do that , also , check the oil level, make sure its to the full line while sitting, Not running, if the light was on prior to your oil change, sometimes it takes several days for the code to clear
check oil levels every fill up of gas.
if you see drop of level then, then check more often.

The 'Maint Reqd' light indicates that you are due for an oil change. It will blink 4,500 miles since the light was reset at your last oil change, and stay on steady after 5,000 miles.
If you recently had an oil change, all you need to do is reset your maintenance reqd lamp. The procedure is here on this site inthe 'tips and tricks' section, and it is also in your owner's manual.
It seems like to much of a coincidence that it started after you changed the trans oil. You, or someone may have used the wrong oil. Modern automatics are very sensitive to the exact factory recommended blend. Dump the oil and go to toyota for the recommended lube and start over. Be sure the trans is filled correctly...only up to the hot mark if the trans is hot, not just the engine.
