When I start my 98 crown vic in the am starts and runs great for about a min then it starts sputtering like its misfiring recent plugs and coil packs are all sparking. it had a very little amount of snow blow over the top of the engine while the whole system was cold. engine code says mass airflow sensor and the left bank is running lean. It has been running great a lil snow got on it I dusted it off and fired it up can't get it running smooth at all now.

SOURCE: Ford Crown Vic p0300 random cylinder misfire

take a look at the EGR valve it could be either vacum controlled or electronic either way what seems to be the problem is that the valve is stuck in the open position until the engine warms up you can gently tap the egr valve with a small hammer or a screw driver and you can see that it runs smooth, now if the egr valve is vacum controlled replace the valve. if it is electronoc controlled replace the valve and the module for the egr valve.

SOURCE: location of O2 sensor in bank 2, 99 5.4 expedition, running lean

I have a ford 2003 windstar that was running very rough when cold and almost stalling. engine light came on. went to autozone and they read the codes for free and told me it was running lean on Bank 2 also. i came home searched for the O2 front sensors online using the info autozone gave me. there are 2 front sensors on my car that need to be replaced at the same time. look for ones that have a direct plug in and don't need wire splicing. the ones without the wiring harness are cheaper but more of a pain, i think.
they were fairly easy to replace. getting access with the wrench was the worst. reset the light by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. seems fine now and the light hasn't come back on.

SOURCE: TOO LEAN CODES

yes very very common code for these motors i get them all the time. now the first thing i do is listen to the pcv valve for noise if it is rattling this is the problem and is the most common of all. another thing is the intakes leak from cracks in them but the only way to find it is with a smoke machine. now the one other thing i have seen before is debre like a leaf in the mass air flow sensor but you have replaced it so most likely no that.

do your self a favor and change the pcv valve it only cost under 5 dollars. if this is not it you will need to find the leak in and around the intake or a vacuum hose.

because you have two lean banks this mean if it is a leak then it has to be in common with both banks and that is the vacuum line system intake etc...

let mew know if you have any more question. good luck man

Can moisture cause my 98 crown vic to stutter and to not start?

That a questions with many answers, none the less moisture will cause the problem you are having. Things to consider , a full tuneup and filters. And check the coil pack too.

My 1996 Crown Vic. recently started to buck and backfire a bit, turned out to be a misfire on #4, have been looking into it with a bit of progress but not complete success

I have faced the same thing with my car, this is not a single answer to this problem. It could be a bad boot on the coil pack, it could be a improper coil install, sometimes the spring does not sit in well, it could be that the intake manifold is leaking, it could be that the egr valve is stuck, it could the exhaust manifold is leaking, sometimes these issues are not caught by the OBD 2 sensors, you can try to move the coils around to see if that works out.

I have a 1995 Crown Vic' that has 102000km, it recently started to sputter and buck a little accelerating, I then replaced the plugs, coil packs, TPS sensor, checked vacuum lines, cleaned MAF sensor and...

run it at night with it dark under the hood and see if you have any sparking from the wires to ground or any other shorts. also replace the fuel filter and run a can of seafoam in your tank on your next gas fill.

Crown vic has been running rough like water in gas. new fuel filter nothing , battery is fine would not even turnover today nothing

Not turning over with a good battery could be a bad ground connection, more likely though could the starter. As for running rough "like water in the gas" most likely is one or more of the "coil packs" over the plugs have gone bad. I recommend to first get the engine codes scanned even if the engine light is not on, the computer will store the codes. look for misfire detected in cylinder #__ . That way you can try using dielectric grease on that spark plug boot to see if it cures the misfire. If this does not cure the misfire you may want to replace the coil pack. However do not replace them blindly as they are in the $50 per unit range. I have had to replace one coil pack on mine and when a second misfire occurred I fixed it by cleaning the spark plug boot and using dielectric grease. I hope this helps.

How can i check my coil pack on a 1998 f 150 4.2

measure resistence between companion outputs. they should be marked on the coill pack.12 ohm nominal. mesasure the resistence of the input terminal. 3 ohm nominal. i recently had a coil pack go bad on a '97 crown vic where the number 8/2 tower was reading good resistence when i kept the meter probe steady. if i moved it around while still making contact, it would change. i was getting a cyl. 8 misfire and found a bad wire and the plug was worn funny, so i changed the plugs and wires. this did not fix the underlying problem. the bad coil pack. the vehicle was misfiring at cruise but upon acceleration no misfire was apparent. what are the symptoms the truck is displaying
