Reverse and no foward gears

I would have it flushed as the filter and fluid only get about 1/4 of the fluid and it sounds like there is a lot more sludge in there.

After making sure trans is full on trans fluid and checks good next try cleaning out the electrical plug, BIG GREY PLUG with lots of wires on the top side of trans, passenger side right next to exhaust. Sometimes they get water in them and short them out causing them to not shift. Also check the fuses inside. Look for shift solenoid. There should at least be one or two. If fuses and plug all check out good it is possible that solenoids are bad. A bad sparg assembly could also cause problem Inside trans. Let me know what you find. If still no forward pull down in first gear and see if it move. If so trans will need to be removed.

if you have an automatic gear box , then it is very possible that you have reverse band is broken inside gear box , , light will come on because switch for reverse lights may be actuated by shift lever not gears .

there is a foward band and reverse band in auto gerabox's so if you are able to drive forward this gearbox will need to be repaired or replaced .

if manual gearbox , you may find a reverse linkage loose , or gears dammaged in gear box .

it sounds like you have 2 bad gears, 2nd gear may be fine for an hour or for ten years, theres no telling on that. your reverse gear is probably shelled out. your best bet is to rebould your transmission or buy a new one, sorry

IT sounds like your reverse gear is going out, or that you need to have filter replaced my best advise is have your transmission checked out by a transmission shop as soon as possible.

the reverse clutch in the trans is after failing.there are two clutch packs in trans for reverse,low/reverse and reverse clutch in overdrive unit,so where you have all foward gears the low/ reverse is ok the reverse clutch in od unit is most likely culpret

That can be, and often is, an indication that you need a new tranny filter and fluid change. If that doesn't solve the problem then the pump in the tranny is getting worn.

if your trans engages properly in fowards and not into reverarse then you have a worn clutch in the trans and the trans will need to be rebuilt
