I believe there is a fuse called stop lights under the hood. I'm about to try to fix the same problem with mine. Going to try the brake light switch first. First make sure that the bulbs are not burnt out. Then are the tail lights not working or the rear brake lights? Tail lights are on a different circuit than the brakes. Check for bad fuses or the multifunction switch in the steering column. Do the 4 way flashers work? If so then the bulbs and wiring are good. If still no brake lights, then check the brake light switch under the dash above the brake pedal.
It's probably the brake lights that are remaining on, because the brake light switch is damaged or your brake pedal is not returning to the full up position. If your pedal is coming back up all the way, you need to replace the brake light switch. It is located under the dash and you should see it move as you move the brake pedal down and up.
See the link starting at about 4:30 to see how to replace the switch (the first part of the video is about changing bulbs). Replacing brake light switch on 2002 Dodge Caravan
Do they turn off if the car is off? If they don't, then check under the dash where the brake pedal is, the switch might be stuck on that's attached to the brake pedal arm. You'll have to do some digging to see the switch underneath
Sounds like the brake/stop light switch. Especially since all the other lights work fine. Not sure where it is on an older caravan but probably under the dash somewhere where the brake pedal shaft goes through the firewall. Let us know how it works out for you.
The Body Control Module (BCM) is located in the passenger compartment, attached to the bulkhead underneath the left side of the instrument panel. But, have you checked for a bad brake switch first?
check to see if the brake light switch under the dash is still mounted in it's holder..if it is not the brake lights will stay on....if you are talking about the brake light on the dash then I would check to see if the emergency brake is engaged or if the switch on the emergency brake assembly is bad
Good Evening, the first place to start is to look down by your brake pedal and pull it up and see if your brake light goes off. (this is of course assuming it is your brake light behind the vehicle) If it is the brake light on the dash check your brake fluid level and be sure that is full ( on the minivans this is the #1 cause I run into for the light being on the dash). However if it is your rear brake lights suspect your brake switch up under the dash attatched to a bracket by the pedal. Hope this helps whichever way it is. Thanks, Joey
Try pulling back on the brake pedal if lights go off then either switch adjustment or the brake booster is allowing the pedal to drop down if it's running (vacuum) or brake pedal mechanism is binding.
