If i pop it out of third i cant put it back unless i put it back into second an push to the right with it in second that seems to line it back up for some reason is there some kind of adjustment i can do to correct this
What model Golf. If it is between Mk1 and Mk3 (1996), you most likely have worn nylon bushes that guide the shifter. This allows the shifter to misalign.
Parts to repairs are quite cheap - then depends on how mechanical you are as to handling it yourself.
Testimonial: "It is a 81 rabbit pickup its vary odd because going from second to third is never a problem but if i have it in third an take it out an then try an put it back it doesn't want to go back but if i put it back in second an push the shifter to the right then i can usually get it back into third"
SOURCE: Car is shifting hard into
Been there, Done that!!! Bought a 2000 bonneville used..once the car warms up it starts shifting rough and down shifting rough. I drove it all the way to work and it ran like a champ till i started start, stop drivin in the street and the tranny warmed up. I retured it to the dealer and it is a solenoid in the tranny that pumps the fluid to detect the shift pattern. that is what they fed me anyways. they fixed it for free. it wasnt too cheap..i got the slip and it was around 1300 dollars. im no car expert by far but this is what happened to me! hope it gives you an idea

SOURCE: 1988 chevy c1500 problem with second gear
be 1988 and Im sure it has high miles, sound like worn transmission, transmission flush and replace it with new fluid might help some. get use tranny from a junk yard better and cost lot less than rebuilt. being GM mechanic for many years i see transmission on a truck with 100k tend to have leaks or need rebuilding. again i see some have better luck but rear.
SOURCE: '99 Concorde won't shift into third.
all the codes listed above are saying incorrect ratio for each gear, you should take this to a dealer he can determine which faulty sensor on the transmission is causing this,it is not a internal transmission problem
THE SENSOR ONLU GOES ON ONE WAY, NO ADJUSTMENT NEEDED. SO NOT SURE WHAT YOU DID HERE OR EVEN IF THE THROTTLE POSITIONS SENSOR IS WHAT YOU REPLACED
