if you don't see any clutch fluid reservoir for the clutch, there are two possibilities: clutch master shares fluid reservoir with the brakes or clutch is using cable not hydraulic.
fill clutch master cylinder. there should be a slave cylinder at top of trans case. bleeder on slave cylinder. crack bleeder with clutch applied. (pump up and hold). do same thing until stright fluid comes out of bleeder.. clutch should be solid after this operation.
either u have a bad pressure plate, or the hydraulics have failed. if there is fluid leaking from your clutch master cylinder or clutch slave cylinder then that is your issue... look under the dash to where the clutch pedal is attached to the rod from your clutch master and see if there is fluid. if yes replace it..
Your vehicle has a hydraulic clutch, and there really is no "adjustment." Verify fluid level in the clutch fluid reservoir, and consider replacing clutch plates if you are experiencing slipping.
Make sure it is full of brake fluid first. If it is, check for leaks around the clutch master and slave cylinder. The master cylinder is mounted on the firewall below the brake master cylinder and towards the driver side. Follow the line to find the slave cylinder on front of the transmission. If you find no leaks, either the master and/or slave cylinder is bad or the clutch fingers are broken.
Clutch may be smooth but this is a sign of the clutch needing replaced. Some of these models have a linkage adjustment under the hood. Others are hydrallic and need fluid. Look under the hood where the steering is and see which you have and address accordingly. Good luck. Check on costs of clutch replacement.
Escort Van? Never saw one. Best thing to do is get on www.partsamerica.com and type in your vehicle info. Choose the clutch section and you will see cable or hydraulic. I've never seen it with both listed.
