My 2002 BMW 318i car has a problem. When I start the engine it will only last for 5 minutes then it will off immediately, when i Start it again, it will not start. I will have to wait for 30 minutes to start the engine again. There is also a white smoke coming out in the hood. Please help me to fix this problem. There is no mechanic here in our city who knows how to fix bmw cars. Thanks!
Check that your ICV ( idle control Valve) is actually alive. This is what used to happen with mine. It is located right below the throttle flap, you will see a hose going to it. Quick fix: adjust the throttle cable a tiny bit, so you have more revs and engine doesn't shut off easily. Wish you all the best!

sounds like a engine sensor i'd guess at the crank sensor but to be sure you would need to get the OBD codes read , this will give the exact fault so wont waste money trying sensor(s) on a hit an miss basis, you can buy a code reader online not expensive just make sure it covers your vehicle make then you have a valuable diag equipment for future use

a bad camshaft position sensor or a vacuum leak. Most likely sensor. Is your check engine light on? you can test sensors with an ohmmeter to determine if a sensor is good or not. It wouldn't be bad to check and make sure your coil packs aren't bad by checking each plug for spark. You can lay one plug and wire at a time one engine so end probe of plug is fairly next to metal. Have someone crank while you watch for spark.
