I have a used '98 AUDI A6 Quattro. Upon purchase only the valet key was given to me. The lock of the door mechanism has broken in some way. When the key is in the slot, it only turns with very little tension, and obviously is not flipping any switches inside the car to unlock it.
A locksmith did get the door to open, however [I'm assuming] since it's a valet key, when I put it into the ignition and attempt to start the car, nothing happens. Is there any way to
A) shut off/reset the alarm security system that's keeping the kill on the engine?
B) start the car just so that I may drive it to a repair shop?
If the valet key is not programmed to the Immobilzer system, it should start the car, but it will shut off. This is only if the car has an Immobilizer system. If your locksmith unlocked the car without the door key, then use the key to unlock and disarm the alarm in the door. If you triggered the alarm, the starter will be disabled till a unlock signal from a remote or the door is actually unlocked with a key. If that cannot be done, your only solution right now is to tow it to the dealership and have them make a master key and check the door locks for proper lock/unlock commands so the alarm will arm and disarm correctly.
