Make sure you get a spring compressor and I reccomend replacing both struts, dust boots, mounts and bearings. Usualyl due to age the mount/bearing will cause noise/steering issuse and the dust boots are there to help the struts last longer by not letting water/dirt ruin the strut seals

My 1999 nissan maxima 5 speed won't shift from 1st to second gear.

If it goes into other gears correctly, then the issue is likely a synchromesh problem with that particular gear, and the gearbox may have to be stripped.
You may try changing the gear oil first though, as this can often fix the issue without having to spend too much money on unnecessary repairs.

Need new struts on my 97 Nissan Maxima . Do the

No, usually struts come without springs. Some aftermakets are available as complete assembly with strut, sping, and mount. This is the best way to buy if you doing them yourself. A little more expensive but you are replacing everything and will not have to take them to a shop to have spings changed over. I would not attempt to do this yourself even with rented sping compressor because it is extreamly dagerous. Strut spings can kill you, play it safe. Good Luck

I have a 96 maxima i got the struts changed and now the abs light is on what now?

i would return the car to the shop that changed the struts. either a sensor got left unplugged, or possibly a cable got damaged in the job. either way, best place to start is by going back to where the struts were changed. they can scan for codes and go from there. good luck!
