I have a key with the chip but my car wont start, what should I do?

Provly not recognizing the chip..may need ignition flashd at a privateshop ..adealr will screwit up worse. That an aftrmarket ign..like a module. Maybe all it needed was a newcoil or distributrcap

It probably wont start. Im guessing, but you probably have a chip in the key that you lost, and the copy you made or had made doesn;t. Those keys are for getting in your vehicle, and won;t start it. Sorry but the solution to your problem is that you need to get a chipped key, usually at your auto dealer. They are not cheap either. so i hope that this sheds some light on why your car wont start. Check with the dealer to see if that model car has a chip in the key. If it does then the new key wont work because it does not have the chip or the chip is not set right.

You may be able to hold the original key close to the key lock and try starting the truck with a valet key that does not have a chip.
The sensor for the chip is close to the cylinder.

you cannot start your vehicle with a failed PATS key
your key houses a micro chip that communicates with the vehicles computer telling it that you are the rightful owner
the battery that powers the chip has died and the chip no longer communicates time for a dealership visit

Those vehicles have a chip key. It has like a little chip in the key that the car picks up and will allow it to start. But if you dont have the key your not going to start it

Sounds like a security passcode issue. There is a chip inside the ignition and if your key does not have a chip in it, this is probably the problem. You can bypass the security lock feature but its a pain in the kisser. Unfortunately, that maybe the only solution to bypass the system or you can do nothing except before letting the key go when you start the car make sure it is started.

you may have to tow your car to your gm dealer to get your pats keys reprogrammed. your key has a computer chip in it ,if your using a different key without that chip ,your car wont start

yes the lights on the dash will light up as usual but the car wont start as it is immobilised if the chip in the key has stopped working, usually there is a red light that flash's somewhere on the dash and when the car recognises the key the light will stay on and the car will start! if te chip is gone the car will ight up as usual but it wont start as it will be immobilised although on a car of the age yours is the immobiliser will be simple to bypass if you hav'nt got the knowledge an auto electrician shoul be able to sort it out with in a hour so it won;t be exphensive.

Either you may be using a key that you had copied from the original or your chip went bad in your original key. Most of cars now a days have the key censor in the key so if it is the incorrect key it will not start your car or if it does not read that chip it will not start
