I have a 1995 Opel Astra 1.6ie. The cars pull is sluggish and idle was inconsistent. I replaced the idle control valve and took the throttle and gave it a good clean with carb cleaner. The idle appears to be constant at 1000 - 1500rpm but the car is still not pulling properly and tends to want to die on cold starts and needs to be kept at a high rev to get going. Please advise

Change your Thottle positioning Sensor. My 93 lesabre did the same thing and i changed the TPS and it stopped.

fuel pump is working but when accelerating it doesnt pump enough fuel up to the engine then it will fall on its face if it is a electric pump you may have to drop the tank if it is inside and replace it if it is on the engine replace it thats what is exactly wrong with it

this problem I find in alot of 3.4 ltre grand-ams and that is the wiring go to the intake air temp sensor is broken at the connector. the wire will look good but in the insulation it will be broken. just give each wire a tug, if the wire pulls out then that is the broken one.

There is a coolant passage that goes to the idle control system. The idle control itself is not bad. Cleaning this passage will make it normal again. I have fixed a 95 honda accord this way, and a 97 honda accord. You will need to remover the whole assembly. Actually the whole rapair doesn;t need parts so thats good news for you. Be carefull since the idle control is made of aluminum, and can be damaged easily. I damaged the one I was working on, thankfully I also have an aluminum mig welder so I was able to repair it like new.
