My 2000 Dodge Dakota 4 cyl recently died. All the gauges went to ZERO while driving. The odometer reads "no bus error". Everything I read said to replace the ECM. So $300 later, I install the remanufactured part, reconnect the battery, turn the key...No Bus Error. Any help at all??
All the modules are connected together to communicate with each other via the PCI bus. It is possible that one of the modules is pulling the bus down.Since the vehicle won't start it could be any one of the modules. It will be a process of elimination to find the faulty one by disconnecting them one at a time. Here are a few, powertrain control module (the one you replaced) Instrument cluster, overhead console, anti-lock brakes, airbag. Since the cluster unplugged wont read anymore, just try to start the vehicle to see if that was the one. Otherwise see if the odometer message of "no bus" goes away after each one is unplugged.
The fuel light is coming on because of a lack of communication with other modules on the PCI bus (programmable communications interface). One other possibility that can be checked with a volt meter or by unplugging sensors is the 5 volt reference signal is being pulled low. The TPS, CKP, CMP all share a reference signal. I haven't seen this problem on 4 cylinders though. With the key on, unplug the throttle position sensor, crankshaft position sensor, and camshaft position sensor. When you find the bad sensor you'll heard relays light up and key and door chimes in the cab sounding off. But like I said, I have only seen this reference signal pulled low on 4.0 and 4.7 jeeps and trucks, no 4 cylinders. I hope this helps

My next idea was to pull the instrument cluster and clean up any contacts, as well as getting a hold of a light tester and checking my fuses. When the odometer blinks several times and then the no bus error shows up, an engine icon also lights up, followed in about 10 seconds by a low fuel icon. Should the fuel icon lighting up direct me somewhere?
Thank you sir. I will try all options.
went to O Rielys and they scanned it said all it showed was a error with the temp or gauge
