Chrysler 3.5 won`t rev past 2500 rpm?

2002 Chrysler 300M 3.5 high output won`t rev past 2500 rpm in any gear. If i drive the car it will drive o.k.. Once the rpm goes to 2500rpm it will act like a rev limiter. this will happen in any gear (park or drive). what could the problem be. I check all vacuum, replace spark plugs, two primary o2 sensor. The engine require excessive cranking many time before starting. while cranking it will try to start but die, or sputter.the fuel pressure is showing 45psi on the gauge. when i drive the car and the rev hit 2500rpm, the transmission will not shift to allow normal diving.

thank you
steve

when I turn the ign key on the air control flap will become active by moving quickly into position. I am thinking this issue might be the CPS (crank or cam position sensor). Every time the rev hit 2500rpm the trans shifting will fail. i will then pull over to the side of the road and re-start the engine with many cranks.Once started i`ll continue driving below 2500 rpm all the way to 60mph with gear shifting perfect.

    thanks for the help.

either cam sensor or timing belt look at the cam/crank signals on a scope
if the differance is lower than -14 or higher than+14 check the timing belt marks

2005 ford freestyle wont rev up past 2500 rpms

If you hit the Rev Limiter on a Ford, it will simply bounce the rev back down, to protect the Engine. So, no high Revs. But, you should be able to bring it slowly to a High RPM. That is normal. If there are no Check Engine Light on. You are most likely hitting the rev Limit and need to stop.

2008 sprinter 2500, every time i start to drive I have no power for about 5 to 8 seconds nothing happening then slowly it starts to rev up engine and start to drive then its fine , there r no codes

Check the engine in neutral/park and depress gas and confirm engine is slow to rev up. If the engine revs in gear and little or no movement have the transmission checked.

this car is likely a drive by wire.(no cable between gas pedal and throttle actuator motor) Some one needs to observe the throttle to see if it advances when the gas is depressed.

The simplest analysis would be the connection to the engine computer with not a simple scan tool but a Chrysler proprietary analyzer to see the interaction of throttle position and engine RPM

Hope this helps?

Nothing, you have hit the rev limiter. The up and down is the computer controlling the rpm. If you drive it, it should rev past 3,000. The computer is designed to keep free wheeling rpm to that level. It will only allow a higher rpm if vehicle is in gear and moving with a load.

Transmission bogs down

what counts is ENGINE RPM.
see?
i put shifter in REV.
i do the stall test in the FSM, or at alldata.com
the stall test is brake hard sat and advance throttle with right foot for 5sec max, what is RPM????
if its very very low RPM that is a weak engine, but will not that, because car drives perfect in forward gears.
if the RPM shoots why to high (read the page) 2500 is like max,IIRC.
that means REVERSE slips.

ever try a new tranny filter. or better a full flush and new filter?
ever 50k?
amazing things happen , it last 2 times longer.

hell do the stall test in all gears, takes what 1min?
and see the book , on spec.
alldata.com
or the real FSM
get one, and win.
see it here, in 1st.
this video use the A/T tranny to test a good MAF.
http://www.fixkick.com/videos/FLV-all/showtime.html#MAF

this test is classic test on all trannys, in all FSM of ever car (non CV)
note the rpm in top right corner, and it ends at 2000 rpm
this proves 3 things
1: engine has full power
2: tranny dont slip in 1st.
3: the MAF is at full output and good, (ignore this for now)

then brakes are had set. and chocks on tires.
the engine and tranny be come like a dyno test.
the FSM cover this is vivid details on 1st and reverse.
and the solutions.

2006 Chrysler Pacifica won't go over 3000 rpm

When your driving or when in park?

If it wont go over in park this is normal. It is the rev limiter kicking in so that the engine will not self destruct.

You could say, as a rough estimate, 2500-3000 RPM is probably the most you should rev the engine in a 323.
