Drain the fuel out of the tank and remove tank. Be careful not to brake lines that are connected to top of the tank. disconnect lines and wire for fuel guage and fuel pump. use a flat bar or sutable tool and rotate the odd looking lock nut counter clockwise to the first tab and pump will lift out of tank. reverse procedure to install new pump. (while pump is out it would be a good idea to clean the tank out. You may be surprised by how much dirt and **** there will be in the tank. That is why the pumps fail. There is a screen on the inlet of the pump that plugs up causing the pump to overheat and burn itself out)

My 1998 GMC jimmy won't start without starter fluid sprayed in the air intake on top of the motor.a small sprits and she starts right up.what do i need to prevent that everytime startup issue.

Your fuel pump isn't putting out enough gas to turn over motor it needs over 14lbs per square inch of pressure to start even though it only needs 12 to keep running. you will have to replace fuel pump.get acdelco and you ill never have to replace again.

Fuel pump not comeing on 1998 gmc jimmy how to test the pump?

this is the highest failure rate of any part. I've been in auto parts for nearly 10 years and one thing is certain, you need to replace your fuel pump. Do not get a Carter brand pump. ONLY get a Delphi or Genuine GM pump. The less expensive pumps last about 1000 miles.

Is there an access door any where to replace the fuel pump in my 98 gmc jimmy

I do not think so. Look above the fuel tank to make sure but I believe you will have to remove the fuel tank in order to replace the pump. Be sure and replace the fuel filter at the same time. Partially clogged fuel filters are the main cause of fuel pump failure.

Not recieving gas to crank.

You jimmy has no throttle body, the injectors are in the intake manifold in front of the intake ports. To have them activate, you need 62 to 65 PSI at the shredder valve. Anything different will not activate the injectors and DO NOT TRY TO START THE ENGINE BY PORING GAS THROUGH THE THROTTLE BODY. It's been know for the gas to catch fire and burn up the poppet valves, (fuel injectors) which will result in a $1,500 Spider injector replacement. If you do not have the proper fuel pressure, chances are the fuel pump will need to be replaced. When replacing the fuel pump, replace the wire harness from the fuel pump to the frame, it's only $12.00 and will keep the gremlins away. Good luck and keep me posted, the other thing too that would cause the injectors not to fire is a bad ignition modulator with is located under the rotor in the distributor. Keep me posted, be glad to help you get your jimmy running again soon.

My sons 1998 GMC Jimmy was leaking gas all over the garage floor. Just had the fuel pump replaced.

Either the fuel tank was punctured or a fuel line is not properly connected. They are quick connect fittings, an O-ring may have been damaged.

That's right! Fuel pump is in the fuel tank, some car has opening to acces in the trunk under the carpet, some car you need to take down the tank, my advise is get your self a service manual for your truck its about $25.00 and it will help a lot.
Good luck.
