My son's 1998 Olds LSS 3.8L ran fine, started it up in the morning, and ran for 5 minutes and quit. Started again in the afternoon ran fine for 5 minutes then quit again. Started checking it out, no fuel in the fuel rail. Fuel pump won't cycle on key switch. Pump relay and fuse are good. I can't get power at the connector above the fuel tank going to the pump. Security light is out, and the engine cranks over. Have spark at the spark plugs. May be coincidence, but the power window quit at the same time. Can't find any blown fuses in any of the 3 fuse boxes, and swapped out relays 1 at a time with a known good relay. Still no fuel pump operation. I have a new pump to put in, but don't want to waste the time if I'm not getting power that far.

Was able to get it running thanks to Mike at a GM forum. Had to clean both ground busses under the carpet at each door kick panel. http://www.gmforum.com/electrical-133/gr...

Fuel pump inside gas tank is defective.

  • Kevin Wing Oct 08, 2013

Finished putting new pump in today. As I expected, not the problem. Still not working, and the old pump does work. Not sure where to go from here. Have seen other forums with people having the same trouble, but never gotten back on and posted if they got it fixed or what they did to fix it.

SOURCE: Ford Escort 1998 fuel pump not working.

good old ford lol, try looking at the crank sensor its located at the front of the engine tucked in right hand side of exhaust manifold and gearbox, two pin plug, i have also known these to have no end of faults with the fusebox.
easy to remove, and solder the connections inside they all suffer eventually, if your not to handy with cars i recommend taking to a auto electrician, easy if you know how. Good luck Davelee

first need to make sure you have enough fuel pressure. Hook up a tester and check against the specs. if its too low, then your probably looking at a fuel pump. By replacing the filter, you allowed more fuel to flow. Also, make sure you are getting spark and injector pulse.

6.5 tubbo diesel died and wont start back

Sounds like the fuel pump got air in the system. You may have to bleed out the air. Then it will run. Check the fuel tank for fuel first.
