If you were driving a Ford, I would say your throttle position sensor is bad or out of adjustment. This device should be around the throttle plate/throttle cable area.
This can be related to the Crank Angle Sensor (CAS). A bad CAS will cause all these problems. crank angle sensor ( built in distributor ). is it the 2.6 sohc, at least on the 88 its in the distributor.
Have you tried removing, & cleaning I.A.C motor with throttle body cleaner spray & port it comes out of?
