My next door neighbor replaced my wiper motor for my 92 Ford Explorer XLT. Ever since he replaced the motor, the wipers and all works perfectly except when I turn them off they stop where they are standing up against the front windshield instead of down. It is annoying driving down the road with the wipers up on the windshield instead of down. They have been like this for a few months now, I have tried removing the wiper arms and then turning on the wipers itself. When the bolts are the right way, I turn the car off then replace the wiper arms just for it to go down too low to where they end up on the car itself. What do I need to do in order to make them shut off in the down position like they should be instead of being up?

SOURCE: Timing Venture wipers

disconnect the wiper transmission from the motor, then run the motor and turn the motor off with the wiper switch, this will park the motor, re-attach the wiper trans linkage so the wipers are parked/down

SOURCE: How do you remove the windshield wiper arms

The wiper arms have a push in tab at the very bottom at the fitting that is pressed into the wiper linkage below the screen. Use a flat headed screwdriver to pry out the tab. Once out the arm can be pulled right off. Now you can remove the cowling screen

Hello. It seems your Ford has a faulty master switch in the door panels (for the windows), a faulty door jamb switches (for the dome light), a malfunctioning multifunction switch (for the turn signal/windshield wipers). Good luck and keep me informed; if you want to.

Have replaced the wiper motor and the wiper switch on my 1998 ford explorer and wipers still only work on high what next?

Try the multifunction switch (the turn signal switch on the left hand side of the steering wheel). This is a$65.00 item at the parts store or ~$45.00 on line. It takes ~ 20 minutes to change. Torx screws hold the unit in place. Phillips screws secure the cover.

I have a 1998 ford explorer xlt turned wipers on last night they went half way up and now wont turn on.what can the problem be?

check to ensure the fuses are good first. also try and move the wipers on the outside with your hand while turning them on inside. if they move down and stop again the motor could be bad. checking for proper power and grounds is essentially in any good diagnostic, but wiring diagrams or a good understanding of how it works are needed for proper testing and diagnostics. More then likely the wiper motor may have given out. however in some cases the linkage or wiper transmission can let go from the motor so check to see if you hear the motor running with no wiper action. i hope this will help you

Front wipers not working right

Hey paul. It sounds to me like it is in the switch itself. I had a ford truck that some wiper options quit working on and it took replacing the blinker switch.

Windshield wipers don't work

The Generic electronic Module controls the windshield wipers, this system controls all the electrical items like windows door ajar warning and so on. You need to have the GEM quick tested to determine the area to look for the fault, it is very rare for the GEM to fail, the most ccommon cause is the W/S wiper switch, and next the motor's internal contacts that switch it on, or the motor itself, get the Generic Electronic Module (GEM) tested with a scanner and then get back to me with the fault codes, if I was to guess a part it would be the wiper switch it is fairly expensive so it's better to test first then replace parts after pin-point tests of components and wiring are complete and you can be sure with little room for error what is causing the problem.
