2000 Dodge durango wont start after driving for a while.

I can drive my durango and it runs fine, I shut it off and sometimes it wont start again. It will turn over but it will not fire. If I wait 15 minutes it will start. It doesnt do it regularly so it is hard to diagnose. What could be wrong?

I had the same problem in a dodge ram pick up. ended up being the coil. when the coil got hot my truck would die or not start again until the engine had cooled down. replaced the coil, and whalaaaaah. no more trouble. good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had this exact problem with a dodge van. It turned out to be the crankshaft position sensor. I also had this issue with my 7.3 diesel it was the camshaft position sensor. I changed the fuel pump in my 01 Durango and that wasn't the issue. But if you go that route amazon has a Bosch for $150. Cheapest I have found. But as I said it was not the fuel pump. Did have bad fuel pump in dodge van but it would run bad under 1/2 tank. Keep it full problem went away. Something to consider.

Why does my dodge Durango turn off while driving?

You don't say what year or engine size that your Durango is, but they, as well as the Dakotas, have a history of crank shaft position sensor failures. They start by failing intermittently, causing the engine to just shut off while driving. Sometimes they start right back up, but they can go as long as an hour or two before working again. Eventually they just quit altogether.

2000 durango wont start sometimes, turns but wont turn over, had look at two times?

You can hear the started going but engine want crank ???????
The starter is spinning the engine over , but won't start an run ! The starter is cranking the engine ,but the engine doesn't start an run . OK ,enough of that > When it won't start (run ) what's missing ? Ignition spark or no fuel pressure ? Video's on youtube showing how to test for these . Has to be one or the other .

Motor shuts down when reaching normal operation temp

Sounds like the mass air flow sensor or the air intake temperature sensor. Sometimes just wiping out the throttle body/air intake can make all the difference

My 2004 Dodge durango periodically drives in limp mode, will be going along fine then turn a corner and poof there goes drive gear. Sometimes if I pull over and shut it off for a few minutes it will drive...

your transmission filter is stoped up when you shut the car off gravity lets trash fall out then it slowly picks the trash back up and quits again.
