To change your tranny fluid and filter is relativily easy i will tell you step by step here.
1. raise the vehicle and support it with jack stands
2. get a large drain pan
3. locate the transmission oil pand and losen all the bolts removing the rear half of the bolts only and just losening the other bolts to keep the pan held up but allowing it to sag on the rear.
4 be carefull because in this step your likely to get a bath in tranny fluid. insert a flat srewdriver in the back of the pan and carefully pry it lose. now trany fluid is going to pour out of the pan.
5. remove the rest of the bolts be carefull because the trany pan still has a lot of fluid in it.
6. grab ahold of the filter and pull it down.
7. insert the new filter but make sure the rubber gasket came offf with the old filter they have a tendency to stick in the transmission.
8 replace oil pan and torque down evenly
9 refill with correct fluid to the correct level
10 take for a drive and recheck the fluid level and check for transmission fluid leaks
ps when the pan is off clean the inside of it out with brake cleaner really good
If there are no leaks after you get done congratulate your self on a job well done

hope this helps you
please rate me
Thank you

You should take it to a shop and have it pressure cleaned with the propper equipment, 1998 corvetts do not have a dip stick to check, unless you have a leak or you just feel it is time to change the trans oil, it is a sealed unit and requires service by a shop or you could get the equipment and open up a shop.

My 98 auto. ford escort zx2 will not take any gear nor move.

Sounds like you have really screwed the pooch here. What I suspect you did was put the wrong transmission fluid in when you replaced the fluid. If you did use the right fluid, then I would suspect that there is not enough fluid in the transmission to make it work. Check if you used the right fluid and also check your trans fluid level.

Well,if you have not done so already. Get a transmission filter kit.Change the fluid, replace the gasket. Transmission fluid does lose viscosity. If you have already done this,i recommend a ****** shop.It could be any number of things inside the transmission, like linkage.

98 chev corvette auto transmission will not shift into 3rd gear or overdrive

I would start by checking the fluid level in your transmission. If it is fine, then it's possible one of the solenoids in the transmission is going bad. Is the check engine light on? Goodluck

DONT DRIVE IT ANOTHER INCH. Black transmission fluid poor shifting you're close to a $3000 dollar repair bill because you have gone too long with out a fluid change. Don't flush it just change the fluid and if it has one the filter in the transmission pan. Youtube the procedure or get the repair manual. You have to do it your self or have it towed that's how seriously close you are to transmission failure. Big bucks

I have a 85 corvette with trans. problems. Since I replace the fluid and filter it won't move when I put it in reverse and it has a hard time shifting into 2nd. Anyone know what to do??

it sounds to me like you lost one of the little ball bearings in the valve body when you removed the filter try going to your local salvage yard and ask if they have any cores you could get one out of and the counter man will more than likely know what part you need or your local transmission shop can help with that part and location but they will want to sell you a transmission job your trans is a common trans it should be a 700r4 but check to be sure 85 was a problematic year for corvette but mostly computer issues

No Dip Stick for trans fluid on 98 Kia Sephia!

The transmission fluid needs to be replaced and checked at a transmission shop or the dealer. In the manual is the information you need to when the transmission is due for service to keep your car running 100% and to keep the warranty valid. Good luck and hope this helps.

Transmission problem

Ok the 1st thing to do is change the fluid and filter, while the pan is off look for excess debris from the clutch packs, there will be some stuff in the pan, but if there is allot then the clutches are starting to fail and you will need an overhaul, how many miles on truck, 60,000 is recommended change for trans fluid, also use the latest GM approved Dextron 5 fluid, it is the best around and makes old transmissions shift much better, I used it in my 96 Corvette and what a difference!

Manual trans as well as auto trans, the fluid should be changed once a year and/or every 30k miles.

1998 SUNFIRE GT TRANSMISSION PROBLEM

There are 3 transmissions that could be in your car,the 3 speed auto and 4 speed auto overdrive, and of course the manual 5 speed. The 3 speed is designated the 3T40,the 4 speed auto is the 4T40E trans. To check the fluid level, first, the car has to be warmed up to at least 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The car has to be raised in the air,as there is a steel plug in the trans case that has to be removed to check the fluid level. The plug takes an 11 mm or 7/16" socket or wrench and is located on the passenger side of the trans case, near where the passenger side axle engages into the trans. The procedure is to warm the car up to at least 100 degrees, engage the shifter into each gear selection pausing for about 5 seconds in each gear, then remove the plug.If fluid drips out,it is full.If no fluid drips out,add fluid through the top of the trans after removing the red plastic cap,and make sure to use a long funnel to avoid a mess.Add fluid until it drips out the hole. When done, replace the plug and cap.Just a note,a transmission does not "use" fluid like an engine uses oil.If you have to add fluid, that means there is a leak that needs to be repaired.Good luck
