Battery died. Jumped off. Lights dimmed. Car died. Jumped off again. Car ran a few minutes. Wouldn't go in reverse. Died. Jumped off again. Lights all dimmed and it died again. Jumped off again. It wouldn't go in drive. Died again. Altenator or transmission?

I have a 2001 RX 300 and mine has done the same thing. The first time it happened the dealer had me bring it in. It was under warranty, and they replaced something, which I can't remember. Then it happened a year or so ago, and the service rep at the dealership told me that her car does the same thing, and I should just let it reboot itself in a day or so. It did it two days ago driving back from a long trip. The service rep said to bring it in because she didn't know what was going on (I think she was new).
It's now resolved itself again. It must be a fluke with the model, but I don't worry about it.
SOURCE: TRANSMISSION
Is this in all gears ie: D, 2, 3, L? or is it a specific gear? Assuming the transmission fluid was change, one or more valves in the unit is stuck and also, the bands inside the transmission could be worn. The transmission shop needs to hook up a special machine and pressure test valve chambers...hope this helps
SOURCE: Slow Shifting Transmission When Cold
thats is normal for almost all the toyota's
the trans has to get to operating temp before it starts to shift normal.
SOURCE: intermittently car will not start, no starter
This sounds like a problem with the starter motor solenoid.
It could be worn out, binding, or any host of other problems. Remove it, and have a local parts store test it for you, then visually check the solenoid (the store should be able to check it for free).
Testimonial: "Problem is if person who has car is several hundred miles away and does not have means to remove starter. I do not believe auto parts will remove it."
