Recently had the oil changed in my 2006 2.8L CTS and after 1000 miles the car develop an oil leak, coming from driver side and appears to be coming from the driver side and just below the oil filter. Leak started as drops but now is more like a small oil pattern the size of a silver dollar.

Could be a faulty seal on the oil filter. Best bet is to take it back to wherever you had it changed and have them check it.

SOURCE: 2003 cts has oil leak

ok, woodhujr,if im not mistaken you had another help request of cranckcase pressure...that problem is causing your leak.
ccny, i have no idea what you are talking about, feel free to enlighten us...
Howard, the best advise i have for you in replacing the valve cover gasket(s) is to get a repair manual for this car/engine and follow the steps as outlined there. I couldnt try to give you step by step instructions in this little box without way oversimplifying.

SOURCE: 1999 Cadillac coolant leak, can not find

ok...here is my experience with our 1999 Deville. We had the same problem with ours almost 8 months until we had the coolant flushed and filled. That is when our problem reared its ugly head. As you probably already know, this Northstar engine does have well known issues with head gasket failure as well as head bolt issues and last but not least, thermostat problems. If you haven't had an "official" overheat ( not just the coolant low light, but a true blue overheat where car has safety to shut down or run on half the cylinders) you should be fine and your engine healthy enough to repair.

I would dare say it is your head gasket. The first thing you should do is pressure test your sytem, this will diagnose whether or not it is infact your head gasket. It could also be a head bolt(s) that pull from the block when car gets too hot. If either of these things are the problem, be prepared for the investment and be sure that whoever does the work on your engine knows how to diagnose whether your engine is good enough to repair. Cadillac service bulletins instruct dealerships to replace the engine in this case, but you can repair an engine that is healthy enough. It is costly and you must love your car, but if the love is TRUE, you will love it more when it is repaired.

You did mention that the oil is fine...I know you wereprobably looking for coolant.....when these head gaskets go, the coolant doesnt necessarily mix with the oil, in fact, we didnt have that problem at all. Our coolant was shooting out the tailpipe and evaporating. You could probably check your spark plugs for coolant residue, but you would have to be sure to check them all, because you will probably have the problem in only 1 cylinder. The best way to get a yes or no is the pressure test. Good Luck!

SOURCE: cts won't start after oil change

Had the same problem. 2005 Cadillac CTS with the 3.6L V6 would not start after a oil change. I started looking for wires and stuff that might have been disconnected. That is when I realized that I had also checked the air filter. The hose from the air filter box to the intake had come slightly loose from the intake. The car would not run with an air leak at the air cleaner box box hose. Put the hose on tight and problem fixed.

SOURCE: 2004 Cadillac CTS won't start after oil change?

Did you also check the air filter? The Cadillac CTS is very finicky about the differential pressure across the air filter. Checking the air filter often causes the hose between the air filter box and the intake to come loose or start to leak. This will cause the car to run rough or die immediately after starting.

My 2005 Cadillac CTS uses a quart Oil between oil changes, what could be the reason. There is no pooling under the motor and buring smell or smoke and the car only has 68000 miles

It's normal for most cars with significant miles on there to use oil, you won't see or smell the oil being used because some of it gets burned internally between the piston and the piston rings, I wouldn't worry about it until you start seeing blue smoke coming out of your exhaust while the engine is running, in that case your piston rings are worn aqnd it's tome for a new or rebuilt motor.

There is a oil leak on driver side of engine leaking on exhaust. doesnt appear to have water in the oil or anything. any suggestions what the problem is

Check the valve covers, oil pump or head gaskets. Just because there is no water in the oil, doesnt have anything to do with a oil leak, unless you are noticing white or blue smoke out of the exhaust
