I have a problem with my 98 Mitsubishi Montero Sport that no one can seem to solve. It is not getting enough gas shall we say. You can push the gas pedal down and it does about 10 miles an hour down the road. I noticed that the loss of power was a gradual thing. Mechanics have checked everything, cat conv, fuel pump and filter, throttle bore, changed the o ring in the gas line, and even changed the computer. It ran great for about 5 or 10 mins after the computer was changed, then went right back to the same problem. Got really hot too. Any suggestions?

SOURCE: changing brakes mits. monero spt. 4wd 2000

it is easy to change even you can change it your just going to take off the front wheel then you will see the break panel there's a bolt holding the break pad loose it so can pull the break pad out... or more or less even a driveway mechanic can do this for less cost...

SOURCE: Changing transmission filter on Mitsubishi

FIRST YOU HAVE TO UNBOLT THE TRANSMISSION PAN ON THE BOTTOM OF THE TRANSMISSION. THERE WILL BE FLUID IN IT SO BE CAREFUL NO TO SPILL IT. AFTER THE PAN IS OFF YOU WILL SEE THE FILTER ON THE BOTTOM OF THE VALVE BODY. IT MAY BE BOLTED ON AS WELL. HOPE THIS HELPS. LET ME KNOW. GOOD LUCK

SOURCE: 93 mitsubishi diamante, starts runs for 5 mins

Check all of the cables near intake. Make sure all of the sensors are pluged in.  Since if sensors have plugs that are loose than you could have a problem of inconsistent runing.

I have a 98 mitsubishi montero sport having it serviced mecanic said carrier bearing is going out. I thought thayt was just on big trucks with split drive shafts. is there one on my suvh

You will need a blanket and a flashlight.
One way to get the truck high enough to look under it is to drive either the right side wheels or the left side wheels up onto a curb.
Then get under it and look halfway between the end of the transmission and the rear axle pumpkin.
A carrier bearing is the round thing about half way between these two.
Just a little more information.
The carrier bearing is found roughly about the place where the back of the front seat is above you. The carrier bearing is likely the size of a breakfast cereal bow,l, .
The pumpkin is the big gear holder exactly in the middle between the rear wheels, and is about the size of a large dinner plate.
Your vehicle is old enough to need one if you have not had it replaced yet.
These normally will give you some notice of their failure, such as a vibration or noise of some kind, be not in every case.
Be blessed.

2000 MONTERO SPORT SOMETIMES THE TRANSMISSION WONT GO IN REVERSE, NOT ALL THE TIME? \r\n ALSO, STARTS RIGHT UP, WHEN YOU PUT IT IN GEAR DIES UNLESS YOU DRIVE WITH BOTH FEET TO KEEP THE GAS PUSHED DOWN.

Is it a manual shift? If so you may need more clutch fluid. If automatic make sure you have enough brake fluid so you're able to put car in gear. Also make sure you have enough transmission fluid. As for the both feet on the accelerator....sounds like you need a new fuel line. Also make sure there is no water or sediments in gas tank.Try gas treatment to help with that.If you do end up having a transmission problem replacing it will be costly and you might as well just sell her and get another vehicle.Good Luck!

I have an 98 Montero sport that has a "ticking"

modern engines- rockers arms don't need to be readjusted- they have hydralic lifters- if ticking loudly- you might need to change oil- either it is starting to break down or milage is high enough on vehisle to step up one grade during warmer weather

2004 Mitsubishi Montero Sport LS 65,000Miles. My belts seem to make a lot of annoying, loud sound. Especially after it rains. Is this a timing belt/chain issue or one of the other belts?

I have a 98 Montero Sport, whenever my belt sqeaks I check the tension and usually thats the problem. Tighten them accordingly and it should solve it. As for the timing belt, mine is a belt not chain. First time I had it changed was at 100,000 miles and the dealrship said I was cutting it close ><
