Cruise Not Available and Check Engine Light on

Hi i have a 2002 jaguar x-type 2.5 sports model with navigation. (Dont know if the navigation has anything to do with the problem). i turned my car on today in the morning inside a heated garage and the car was giving a rough idle and the cruise not available sigh came on with in the dash and the check engine light came on after a few minutes later. i let the car warm up and drove it and then the cruise not available went away but the check engine light stayed. i drove for 4 -5 miles and turned the car off and came back and turned it on the check engine was still on but no cruise not available in the dash. thinking the check engine needs to be resetted or so i drove and about 1 mile later the no cruise available came back. i tested this a few times and it keep occuring in a on off on off cycle with the check engine light always on never going away. Please how do i solve this problem i hope it is not damaging the car in any way.

Engine light is on, cruise control unavailable comes on and stays on once I go above a certain speed. Took it to Ray Catena TWICE and they cant figure out the problem. Problem is, car WILL NOT pass inspection as long as engine light is on. Is this not a manufacturer's defect? I see way too many people having the same problem and to be told that they don't know what is causing it is totally unacceptable.

    ok guys,

I am a jaguar tech and this is what i have seen with this problem. When a certain code comes on, causing the check engine light to come on, the engine control module (ecu) will also flip on the "no cruise available light" as well. Now this doenst mean that that the check engine light has to do with the cruise directly!!

For example i have a x-type, like yours, that had a check engine light on with 2 lean codes stored in the ecu. Also, the cruise unavailable light was on also. When I fixed the problem for the two lean codes the cruise light went away as well.

In order for me to completely help you guys i need to know what code is stored in the ecu. you can do to auto zone and they will scan it for free, its a general scan but it may be enough to figure out the problem, or at least make a plan of attack.

Hello. Jag x-type 2002, 2.5 l. Problem: engine doesn't exceed 3000 rpm. It looks like computer blocks the engine. any ideas?

My car has a similar problem,i read the manual and the car goes to a limp home mode if the computer feels there is something wrong with the car,it happens to mine when the cruise control not available light comes on-it will also not exceed above 70mph when that particular light comes on.I was told my cruise control computer needs changing

My jaguar x type sport check engine light is on and the message center reads cruise control not available but only does it occassionally

Thanks to all who wrote about the PVC hose. I am the original owner of a 2002 X-Type 3.0 with automatic. This weekend the engine light went on with a warning message that the cruise control is unavailable. The cruise worked and the only symptom I noticed was a slight lurching when slowing to a stop. I found these posts about the PVC hose and checked out mine to find there was a 4 inch **** in this hose. I bought a replacement from the dealer (Part No. C2540863 - £6) and noticed the new one has a waffle texture instead of smooth and feels stiffer. It also has clamps on each end which were missing on the original. This fixed the problem! It drives smoother and there is absolutely no lurching as I come to a stop.

The work involved is to take off the 3 screws and the oil filler cap which holds the plastic cover over the engine. Then remove the old hose by hand, reinstall the new hose with the 2 crimp style clamps. This hose is about 10 inches long and 1 inch in diameter going from the exhaust manifold to the engine, entering the engine right next to the rightmost screw anchor holding the plastic cover. Replace plastic cover and you are done (about 10 minutes). I recommend this as good preventive maintenance for anyone who still has the old smooth PVC hose.

Message center says cruise not available, cruise works but check engine light came on.

I had double trouble with mine doing this. Had to have Tranmission rebuild and engine had vacum leaks. Hope yours is vacum leaks.

Surges

Surges? Mine would surge, sputter, like it was losing power and the engine light would come on. I got a message saying Cruise Control not available. I opened the hood and heard a hissing sound. There was a leak in my PCV hose. I taped it up with some electrical tape that I keep in my glove compartment and problem solved. My mechanic replaced the hose for about $15

2002 X-type Jaguar with 2.6 -- check engine light came on

My 2002 x-type did the exact same thing on many occasions and had many repeated trips to the dealership. This problem was ultimately cased by cracked hoses in the car's vacuum system (which is used in the cruise control and brakes). Have the dealer check the vacuum lines and the breather hose (mine had completely collapsed). Chances are they are leaking and causing your car to "buck" and the cruise to not work. Don't ignore this as it will affect the functionality of your brakes too over the longer term.

Check engine light code p1603

When I went outside to start my Jaguar X-Type it was cold outside. I was in a hurry and didn't let the car warm up properly. It jumped a bit then the check engine light came on along with a message that said No cruise control. The no cruise light came off but my check engine light is still on. Any suggestions as to what it may be?
