Jeep 98 is hesitating and missing, jerking slightly when accelerating and taking off from stop. It does this more when warm. If I drive slow and easy on the gas I can avoid it some ... I have replaced plugs, wires, distributer and cap, the crankshaft postion sensor, and the fuel pump. NOW I am wondering if it is the TPS, the MAP Sensor, the O2 sensor, the cam sensor or what? OMG! OR EGR valve almost forgot...

similar problems: my front oxygen sensor was bad causing problems after 20-30min cool down (replaced and was fine). Also under certain driving conditions I was getting bucking, hesitation and backfiring due to battery sliding into computer wiring harness disrupting sensor input/output signals. I placed a 1" spacer on rear battery clamp pushing battery forward and it cured my problem.

SOURCE: jeep starts and idles perfect no acceleration,

Sounds like the catalytic converter or muffler are clogged. There isn't much exhaust at idle, but when you accelerate your exhaust volume increases, thus if your catalytic converter or muffler are clogged the restrict the exhaust escaping out thus causing an excess of back pressure which won't allow the engine to breathe normally.

could it be your throttle sensor? If it is a carbureted engine, check the accelerator pump inside the carb.

Was having a slight hitch when accelerating up hills then the other day my cat got red hot and it would barely run, now i fixed the cat problem but it wont start, any tips?

When the engine really got hot is there a possibility you may have over expanded some parts and now the engine is sort of tight and is not spinning fast enough to start.

I have a 98 jeep cherokee that is hesitating when taking off, after it heats up it is worse, it will misfire, hesitate and jerk when accelerating. The fuel pump, crank sensor, the plugs, wires, distributer...

Check the fuel pressure. If you have 30K miles on your jeep and the spark plugs in this motor need to be replaced. Jeep Grand Cherokees are notorious for not doing well with fuel with lower octane. Fill your Jeep with at least medium grade gasoline, especially if it has been shuddering or hesitating while you're attempting to accelerate.

Transmission Slight Jerking When Slowing & Accelerating

Have you changed the trasmission fluid and filter in your jeep lately, if not do so and that just might stop the jerking in your jeep, and if that does not do the trick you will need to have your trasmission checked out by a trasmission shop.

Hesitation , skipping, engine cuts out when accelerating

Im having the same issue I believe. I have a 94\' Chevy 1500 and when i accelerate it will jerk like the gas has cut out but it wont stall. It just jerks and slows me down. It only seems to do it when going up a hill. I feel like it could be the fuel pump or possibly some intake gaskets?
