Check the brakelight switch under the dash. it might be out of adjustment. it is connected near the top of the brake pedal arm. If the pedal does not come up and contact the switch, the brakelights will not turn off. You should be able to push the switch thru its mounting hole towards the pedal untiil it slightly contacts the pedal arm. If you push the switch in and the lights do not go out, the switch is bad, replace it.
You brake lights are actuated by a switch that is connected to the brake
pedal or to the hydraulics. It's sticking in the closed position. I'd
need to see a shop manual on your car - or the car itself - to tell you
any more than that, but that's your problem. The first place to look
would be at the brake pedal, under the dash, near the top of the
linkage. Shine a flashlight up there and see if you can see a see the
switch. It may look like this:
If it's not there, it could be in the hydraulics. In that case, you should take the car to a brake shop.
You may be able to find a used break light switch online.

Check the following:
1. Do you have proper vacuum. This is either the vacuum lines, reservoir or control.
2. Is the vent "flaps" working? They can break and are controled by a vacuum motor.

The brake light on the dashboard is set by one of two things.
1. An uneven fluid flow in the system will cause a switch to be activated and this turns the light on. Get the brake system diagnosed.
2. The emergency brake pedal may not be fully returning and is still depressing on the switch or that switch is out of adjustment or defective.

On the side of your transmission will be a switch with several wires coming out of it. This is your reverse switch that turns on your reverse lights and most likely needs to be replaced

It is a relatively simple process. However, it depends on whether or not you have easy access to the EGR valve. There should be a wire plug connected to the top of valve...some models were on the side...disconnect the plug. Usually, there is a tube connected on the bottom. If that is the case, you will need to remove the tube. Use a wrench on the nut on top of tube just under the EGR valve. You may also need to remove one or two bolts that hold the valve in place. Each engine is different in the placement of the valve. Once valve is removed, installation of new valve is the reverse of removal. After installing new valve, be certain to reconnect the wire.
