Manual transmissions have a fill plug half way up the side. Remove the plug with the car level. The tranny is full when the oil is at the bottom of the hole. I use a tube on a liter bottle of oil. Put the tube in and add until oil starts to come back out.

If it is an automatic transmission, there will be no drain plug. The bottom of the transmission housing has to be removed to drain the fluid and service the transmission.
