2001 Nissan Maxima loses power at 40 MPH.

It seems like I've lost all the power to my Nissan. When I get to around 40 MPH my vehicle flatlines and slows down. After approx. 10 seconds it picks back up until is hits around 60 MPH were it does the same thing. I'll hit even hit the gas a bit more and it doesn't make any difference. Any solutions to help my problem would be great.

The computer in the car should have stored some trouble codes while this problem was occurring.

Best thing to do is take to an autoparts store. Most of them will pull the trouble code from the on-board computer for free.

That way we can find out if something like the speed sensor or something related to the transmission solenoids.

Let me know what you find out.

Fuel pump is not pumping hard enough anymore. Have a mechanic check the pressure. Either pump is bad or the fuels filter is clogged. One other thing that causes this is a clogged Calalytic Converter.

This could be water in the gas lines or, you may have wire and plug issues as well. I would take this car in for a full scale tune up. make sure they check the distributor points as well. Changing the fuel pump wouldn't hurt at all.

SOURCE: 1975 cj5 jeep starts to shake badly at about 40 mph.

I had the exact same same issue with my 03 sahara at the exact same speed and it was a huge build up of dirt in the rims (live on gravel road)that may be the issue or you may have a badly balanced tire or a bad front end part(s) ball joint tie rod etc......
hope this helps!

SOURCE: my nissan maxima 2000 does not have any power

Change the fuel filter first, but it sounds just like a plugged catalytic converter. You could remove the pre cat O2 sensor and try driving it. It would be very noisy but if it goes better, you know you have a restriction behind it and it's time for a new cat.

Check your MAF out. If your revs are slow and you lose power top end it could be faulty.

Nissan maxima losing power at about 2000rpm reaching about 35 mph. engine sounds find and rpms will reach 5000 but speed will not increase. Engine light is on indicating air fuel ratio and o2 sensors

I would take the two screws out of the MAF sensor and clean the contacts off and put it back together...try that, worked for me. There are silver prongs and if they have ANY condensation oxidation it needs to come off. Other wise check your fuel filter. Maxima's are tricky to troubleshoot but just try them two things and see what happens.

most ecu controlled vehicles have a 'limp home'mode if 2 or more fault codes are stored,it is designed to get your attention before damage is caused and to get you to the nearest w.shop to fix,i would have codes cleared and retest vehicle,it is the cheapest and 1st option for any shop, some late models even have excessive mileage past service interval in the 'limp' program
