My 2006 prius has been running fine until the last time I drove it, that was 30 minutes ago. It was parked and the car was off as I was sitting in the backseat waiting for someone. I wanted to roll down the window, so from the backseat I pushed the power button once (without simultaneousoly pressing the brake) and was able to operate the winow. BUT NOW the car will not start, and it seems that I am unable to turn off the "alternate power". The car is not on. The only warning light that is on is the check engine light and the parking light is blinking. The electric windows will operate, although the car is not on, and I can tell I am draining the battery. I can hear a soft whir under the front of the hood.
SOURCE: Car Dies while driving and/or Wont even start after being driven
I would buy a cheap Votage meter from Walmart or Radio Shack and check voltage at the Battery. It should be 12.5 or more. Red positive lead of meter goes to red Battery wire. Black lead goes to black Battery wire on top of Battery.
You can check Alternator charging too, the same way The Voltage should jump to 12.8-13.5 volts. My Toyota would shut off and then start back up after moving the connection to the big fuses in the engine compartment Good Luck.

Your Ignition Relay Is Faulty.
It is located in the Underhood Fusebox.
Consult your manual or the box lid for the exact location.
Please accept this answer to remove it from the work queue.
You have multiple questions for the same problem.
Thanks :D
SOURCE: Running engine stalled
There are many things that can cause a car to stall while driving it.
An engine is made up of many parts, and many of those parts are either
governed by a computer or provide input to the computer to help it
determine settings for the things it governs. Every vehicle has a fuel
system and an ignition system. The computer and its sensors monitor and
govern the fuel and ignition systems.
If your car stalled
while you were driving it, look for an obvious reason first. Check to
make sure you have fuel in the tank (if your gas gauge is working). Do
not sit there and crank the car over, trying to get it to start, as you
will quickly wear down the battery if it's not already bad.
IGNITION:
The ignition
system is composed of: ignition switch, neutral safety switch, security
bypass, plugs, wires (if applicable) and a coil, or in the case of
coil-over systems, many coils. The crank and cam sensors tell the engine where top dead
center is. Though these sensors do not usually cause a no start, if
they break, the computer will go into "limp home mode," which allows
you to get the car to a service station. The car will run badly, and
may stall out on you.
Because the running of a vehicle is complicated, there are many more
things that can cause a vehicle to stall. These are the most common
things that can cause a car to stall. Other things include wiring,
fuses, relays, other sensors not working properly or at all, a bad
alternator or a bad battery, or an overheating problem, just to name a
few.
SOURCE: parking light brake light will not go off after power is engaged
no the P light ans system will always be on unless you command a drive or N funtion since there is no 'park' in the drive train only a mechanical brake. when running/on, when you put in drive it should acknoledge drive and P should unlock. if not you have trouble and need the dealer
Testimonial: "this was very helpful. Thanks. It finally went into drive after repeated tries. Good to know there is no actual nonmechanical parking brak"
SOURCE: 1990 Toyota Camry Check Engine light problem.
The CEL means that the car's computer has detected an error in one of the car's systems. For cars of model years 1996 and later there is a standard connector in the car and you can hook up an OBD-2 code scanner to read the error code from the car's computer. However, for cars sold before 1996, there is no standard, so your best bet is to take the car to a mechanic who has experience with your make and model.
One thing you can try, to turn the light off, is disconnect your car's battery terminals for a few minutes. The CEL should be off when you restart the car. If the CEL stays off, then you're ok, because it may have come on due to a temporary condition somehow related to your parking brake, and the condition is resolved. However, if the CEL stays on or comes back on, this means you have a "hard" error code that definitely needs to be checked out.
In my opinion, although it is possible that the CEL and the parking brake are related, most likely it is just a coincidence that the CEL came on shortly afterward, and there is another cause for the CEL, that should be investigated.
Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.
