Question about 1998 Toyota Corolla

1 Answer

My 1998 Toyota corolla won't crank at all (not even a clicking). The lights, radio, and other accessories come on--no inidication that it's the battery. I had been having issues with the alarm going off and not being able to shut it off. I thought the lack of cranking was the immobilizer. However, now I have replaced the batteries to my key fob and can turn the alarm on and off, so I don't see why it would be now related to the alarm. Any ideas?

Hi I hope this helps I had the exact same problem with my 1998 toyota. I think its the ignition switch, or the ignition itself. That's what ended up being the problem with mine.

SOURCE: 1994 Toyota Tercel Starter Problems

sounds to me that you have an igniton problem not a starter problem and or if you have or had an alarm system could be cause if u do give me feedback and i will explain but seems that your starter is fine from what u say but if you think in terms of the elemts to start a vehicle batery gives pwoer to ignition which sends to starter which gives spark etc i would check you ignition system something is causeing a short and not alowing starter to function

Battery of fob must be strong to work. You can try reinitialising the fob.

Check these two fuses. Fuse number 31 in fuse box location 4, if cigarette lighter, radio and clock. Else fuse number 5 in fuse box location 2, if only radio and clock and not cigarette lighter.

1998 toyota crolla battery hooked up wrong, car starts but no acc

I believe the reason the lights would still work is due to the fact a light bulb doesn't discriminate about polarity. It would be fair to say you have fried relays in your car. These should be located in something that looks like a fuse box in your engine bay. Some may also be in your fusebox. Hope this helps and good luck.
