My sunroof wont stay closed. as soon as it closes all the way it pops back open. is there a way to close it manually?
Hey man ... I have a '96 Audi A4. The sunroof opened all the way a few days ago and now will not close. When I flip the switch, you can hear the motor working, but the glass doesn't move. I tried the manual crank and nothing. The glass didn't move.
Once or twice previously, the roof would start to open (or close), stop, and go back to its starting position.
Do you think it could be just bent contacts?
You can try cleaning and lubricating the runners. The sunroof will open as soon as it is obstructed, eg. A childs arm in the way of closing. The problem here is that you can hear the motor running, wich indicates a broken cable, or a stripped plastic gear.

make it go back to the open position,look down the side of the tracks in the roof that the sun shade slides in and you will probable find the guides for the sunshade are jamming up the tracks. only way to replace them<4 one in each corner> is to remove the glass section and then close sunshade that will give access to the 4 guides which are available from dealer as a kit

Get the transmission scanned at the dealership. If it has incorrect gear ratio code stored, it needs a transmission. Only the torque convertor or valve body can be replaced for any repairs at the dealership, so it needs to be diagnosed correctly. Any authorized ZF transmission repair shop can also repair them, more than the Audi dealerships can, so thats another alternative.

The sunroof assembly has to be removed from the car before the shade can be removed.
Start with the sunroof glass, put the glass in tilt mode and remove the
plastic covers hiding the bolts. Mark the bolts with white out so they
go back where they were, remove the 6 T25 torx bolts. Push the glass
out from the top and remove the glass. This should allow you to remove the shade.

close manually using the roof key in the instruction manual. slot for key is found within the front light for further details check manual... PS i have a diiferent model hopefully info is universal
