I have an 1998 Acura RL 3.5. My rear view mirror assy is show here: http://parts.sonsacura.com/showAssembly.aspx?ukey_assembly=278634&ukey_product=3340151 and is labeled as #19. My car is too old to buy a new mirror at $400 a shot. I bought #10 once, but it didn't fit. I need a solution. The window mount is not very common. I'm afraid to try to pry it off. I've heard one can break the whole windshield doing that. Got any good options?

If it goes directly attached to the windshield, you will have to remove a metal piece of metal from the mirror base. This will have to be glued with epoxy glue to the windshield holding it it with tape overnight. After this you can put the mirror back.

It is held on by a spring tension clip, use a jewlers screwdriver to release it.

there is a small alan screw in the base of the backup mirror. loose it and slide the mirror back on to teh base on the windshield and tighten down the alan screw.

Is the mount made of metal or plastic? In either case, it will be attached to a "base" that is glued to the windshield. A metal mount should have a tiny little screw in it that pins it against the base. Loosen this crew and the mount should slide upwards (towards roof) off the base. A plastic mount should have a tab that you can pull on and slide it off upwards....
