Test all the fuses with a test light. One fuse powers both of those circuits.

SOURCE: Dash light and tail lights not working

The dash and tail lights are controled by the first "click" of the headlight switch found on the turn signal arm.

If the fuses are good, then your turn signal arm has failed.

First click is running lights (dash and outside marker lights), second is headlights.

The 1st position of the 2 position switch has contacts internally that have worn and no longer complete the circuit.

Replace the turn signal arm.

Dash lights not working

Have you checked your tail light's as well? Chevrolet's dash light's wont work if you have blown a tail light fuse. Their way of letting you know you have no tail lights. check the tail light fuse and go from there. Good luck..

I don't understand what you mean by starting in drive instead of first. It should not start in any gear other than park and neutral.
as for the lights , you may have blown a fues or have a dead short from the trailer pigtail you used for pulling the boat.

Inside dash lights and tail lights won't turn on in my '95 Isuzu Rodeo, what can I do?

My 97 Rodeo had the same problem. No Tail lights, no. Dash lights. There is also an annoying buzzer that goes with the set telling you the lights are on, there is no key in the ignition and your door is open. (you don't notice it when it's gone but you sure notice it when it's back)
The Fuse (taillight Illum) was good, The Light relay under the hood was good and all bulbs were good.
What fixed this problem was replacing the tail light relay which is located in a panel just to the left of the brake pedal also called the kick panel.Inside there are 3 relays. I replaced the one in the middle and got everything to work.
If you need to identify the relay you can put your hand over it and then turn the lights on and off. The correct relay should click. Mine was the middle one.
Hope this helps someone because it stumped me for months.

All other lights working, except for tail lights

First, have you checked the fuses? See owner's manual for location. If blown fuse, replace it. If it's not a blown fuse or if it blows again after being replaced, please get back to me.
