Rough start and then it will shut off if you hit the gas too quick. once car is on, you can rev up the engine slowly but if you hit the pedal to quick it shuts off completely. there is no sputtering it just turns off. ive looked under the dash on the drivers side and found a box with a blinking red light. everywhere ive looked says the ecu box is on the passenger side but the only red blinking light ive found is under the dash on the drivers side on the firewall. if I read it right there are 7 codes coming up....1,2,3,7, and 8. any help will be appreciated.

a flashing chack engine light means you have a catalyst damaging misfire the tcs light comes on because this system will not function with certain codes stored for the engine or trans. knowing that you have a misfire you very well could have a bent valve the question is why. have someone check the engine timing incase the timing belt tensioner has failed. i have seen this happen on the 3.2 before or a burnt exhaust valve . as far as the distributor goes the 99 tl does not have one it has cop (coil on plug ignition) . this means you have a seperate coil on top of every plug one of these could have failed check the code to see if the problem is isolated to 1 cylinder rhen start looking at that one and you better hurry that light flashing means you will damage the catalitic converter if the car continues to skip good luck and i hope this helps you.

i have this problem on a regular basis with my 91.

it happens in hot weather, and sometimes after having to start and stop the car several times quickly(like going ot different stores over and over) again, in warmer weather, like 25 C+.

my problem though.

i start the car, it turns over and within the second it started it revs back down and cuts out.

then, when i put the keys back in, and to the second position just before cranking, my lights are on, and i get the s3 blinking, (which indicates a transmission malfunction, DO NOT START YOUR CAR OR DRIVE IT WHEN THIS LIGHT BLINKS, this is a transmission problem, but it is electronic, and runs your tranny really hard)

i would take the keys out, go read the paper for a few minutes or something, come back, put the keys in, and as long as that s3 light isnt blinking, the car starts fine.

the issue relating to gas would make sense, because if the engine doesnt get enough fuel it, well, shuts off. i have had injector issues before,(while applying gas nothing happens for a second) so i started using fuel injector cleaner every 4th or so fill-up.i have seen some better results, in driving as well.

try this, along with hitting your gas tank. BUT, hit your tank at your discretion, you dont want to accidentally cause damage, like maybe shake some electronics loose, which would cause even more problems
