My DRL (Daytime Running Light) will randomly come on. People tell me its not an issue but just the fact that its on my dash telling me DRL is quite irritating. Its not on 24/7, I can sometimes drive and it won't appear but it seems to be totally random when it wants to come on and tell me my Daytime Running Lights are on. Its never on when I have my headlights on which makes sense, but its still random if I'm casually driving during the day and it chooses to come on. Anyone care to help?

Light sensor is going bad..or bad light switch. Sensor are usually located in center of dash facing the windshield. Clean it first and see it that helps.

Check your DRL relay that is located in the fuse box. Also check the connector under the battery box for corrosion. (Not a smart place to put a connector) GM really messed up with the wiring on the 98-00 cavaliers headlights.

SOURCE: Where is the Daytime driving Lamp relay located

follow the wires to the drl relay. It must be inline from the regular light switch to the headlamps. I have a 1990 Cadillac Deville that has an aftermarket module that controls the daytime running lamps, and it is mounted on the driver's side wheel well.

Some relays are found in the fuse box under the hood.

If your daytime running lamps burnt out, take it to an electrical shop and ask them to check it out.

If you buy an aftermarket daytime running lamp kit, they can install it for you.

But, I agree, you should check for voltage and function at the relay for the daytime running lamps on your Astro.

But, if all else fails, the electrical shop should be able to diagnose and repair this problem.

Why would you want the dash lights on with the DRL's ? I wouldn't expect them to be on. You would only have dash lights when conditions require you to have your full lights on. I think you are looking for a fault that's not there. If this doesn't answer your question call the local dealer.

Highbeams

Are you sure it's your high beam and not your DRL. Your DRL light will always be on through the day when you do not have your lights on. Indicating that your drl's are on. DRL (Daytime Running Lights) are your high beam headlights at a low wattage. The only other sympton could be that you have a burnt out headlight and this is telling you so, by having the H.B. light on. on your dash.

Dash light DRL stays on

Bad solders in DRL relay located left side of steering column below change drawer behind dash. It will be indicated with a stamp DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT RELAY. Remove it and redo the solders to the relay contacts in the unit. This will fix the DRL light in dash, return the DRL system to functioning and will also fix headlight not working problem.
