2006 Envoy fuel sensor failure

After starting, the fuel gauge goes to full then drops down to empty within a mile or two of driving. Had the same problem at 42,000 miles and had fuel level sensor replaced under warranty. Vehicle now has 91,000 miles and the same problem. Dealer wants $350 to $400 to replace sensor again. How difficult is it to replace this sensor? Part price?

Although my first impluse is to tell you to do is to drop the tank and check the fuel pump and level. All GMs have had a terrible record with their instrument panels for 2002-2006, so think back and try to remember if you have any other malfunctions with the instrument cluster. If you have, then I would look on the internet and find the places that have made a specialty of rebuilding GMs instrument clusters and have them rebuild it completely.

05 LR3 w/ 96,000 miles. Fuel Gauge dropped to empty on a full tank and gas light came on. Fuel Gauge is not reading at all anymore, just reads as empty. What parts do I need to fix this? Sender...

Repair is a major job involving dropping the fuel tank, a messy and dirty and dangerous job. It will take you at least one full Saturday to do this job if everything goes right and you have the proper parts. My free advice to you is to fill your tank every 200 miles and forget about the fuel gauge.

2006 ENVOY fuel guage reads empty after fill up. What is the cause and how to rectify?

Usually I find there are two common causes for this problem. If the gauge goes to empty after a fill up but then starts to work and be fairly accurate as the fuel level in the tank drops then it's often the fuel level sending unit which is attached to the fuel pump module inside the tank. I have seen some guages go bad also [actually the servo motor that runs the gauge] but usually the gauge will stick in one spot and rarely move or go to either end of the scale and stick there. A good shop should be able to determine the cause of your problem pretty quickly. Hope this helps and good luck!

You will need to replace the fuel level sensor which is in the fuel tank. They have a lot of problems because the metal fingers on the sensor wear off and gives you the incorrect readings. This will also cause the check engine light to come on.You will probably have a level sensor code. This will be a lot easier if the fuel level is down to about a quarter tank or less. Also you should be able to get just the level sensor and not have to get the complete fuel pump module.Good luck.

Gas guage-oxygen sensor?

The oxygen sensor has nothing to do with the fuel gauge. There are two possibilities for the gas gauge error, first it could be the in-tank gas level sensor or it could be a defective stepper motor which drives the gauge. A professional scan tool can determine the fuel level being sent by the in-tank sensor, if that disagrees with the gauge, then the stepper motor needs replacing.

Fuel gauge reads empty after fillup and low fuel light comes on ,goes back to normal after driving a few miles

common problem with those trucks, it turns out to be a bad fuel level sender/module its located in the fuel tank. drop the tank, replace the sender and re-install tank. simple procedure if you know what your doing.

Gas gauge problem

izzy, The fuel gauge is a serial data controlled component. The PCM sends a message to the gauge to tell it what the sending unit says the fuel level is.
Because you do not have any EVAP codes or others, I would speculate the gauge is defective.
Take your vehicle to a repair shop and have them do a data scan and look at the fuel level data to see if the sending unit is sending the correct level to the PCM. If it is, they can check to see if the fuel gauge is getting the correct message but not showing it correct fuel level. This would indicate the gauge is defective.
Good luck and let me know.

2006 GMC Envoy XL gas gauge reads empty after filling, then slowly moves up after driving but will continue to lose pressure until it reads empty and the light is on, then the check engine light came...

Sending unit. Its all one unit including fuel pump, float, ect. The check engine light is because of the high or low resistance in the unit. Let me know if you have already fixed.. You have to drop the tank to get to it also.
