If you just replaceD the engine in your 2005 Kia Spectra, was the replacement engine a good one? It sounds to me like it's a starter or starter solenoid issue! Try "hot-wiring" the starter solenoid, to see if the engine cranks. All security systems are "low level" in terms of current control. But a DIRECT connection from a good battery to the starter solenoid should engage it, which should complete the circuit from the battery to the starter motor.
It is probably the bendix not retracting the gear properly.
It could also be the ignition switch, usually when you start it the key moves back a little out of the start position, make sure this is happening. Can you hear the starter when you are in neutral and idling? If so, the gear is not returning, the solenoid is stuck or the wiring is having a problem.
A clicking sound would be the solenoid on the starter. If the battery is not weak, the solenoid is not making contact when it is pulled in during the start procedure. If the starter and the solenoid (a round tubular thing with wires attached and towards the top of the starter) are accessible, tap the solenoid lightly with a small hammer while the key is being held in the start position. If this works, it is merely a temporary fix and the solenoid and/or started will need to be repaired.
SOUND LIKE BAD STARTER SOLENOID.IF YOU HEAR LIKE CLICKING NOISE.CHECK BATTERY CABLE FOR TIGHTNESS AND CLEAN FREE FROM CORROSSION.CHECK BATTERY VOLTAGE SHOULD BE 12.5 VOLTS.IF NOT BATTERY HAS WEAK CELL IN IT.IF YOU HAVE TO REPLACE BATTERY.TURN OFF RADIO BEFORE DISCONNECTING NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE SO YOU WONT LOCK OUT RADIO CODE.
If it is the starter solenoid you are refering too, it is nearest the firewall, mounted to the engine through the transmission. Should be 3 bolts I believe. It is part of the starter mounted directly on top. If "no crank" is the issue, then you may be looking at replacing the starter motor with solenoid assembly. You can actually get a better look from underneath the vehicle just above the right hand(passenger side) axle where it goes into the transmission.
it is probably the starter assuming the engine isnt locked up. I would check to see if you have battery voltage at the starters solenoid wire with the key in the start position if you do i would check the fuses and starter relay
