Hi, I took my vehicle to mechanic for a 'bench job' for my vehicle was letting off dark smelly smoke. I got the valve kit. Upon receiving my vehicle from mechanic, it came back with a loud knocking sound. The person said the lifters drop and later on the week bring some lifters in a container for me to take the vehicle to the mechanic. After doing so same problem so I purchase a few new lifters and still same problem. Can you tell me what happen? Now I am noticing my vehicle letting off white smoke in the early morning and running hot again. I took it to another mechanic and he said it could be the thermostat so I got a new thermostat and replace the old, now still experiencing the same issue when the ac is on. So I got a fan clutch for the mechanic showed me how he can hold the fan still while its on and that is represents the clutch needs to be replace. Can you please help me with this situation.

Sounds like your getting help from mechanics and so far it hasn't been to expensive. If your getting knocking during startup and it stops as it warms up, that is usually hydraulic lifters. They can get sticky and not pressurize correctly with the oil pressure. For a mechanic to replace 2 or 3 and not all of them is sort of dumb. Actually it is really dumb. They all should been replaced when they had the engine down. The test with the fan your mechanic showed you was good. It is very good he showed you also what it does. Do you service your vehicle at regular intervals? Change oil, Check water, the normal things will save you repair bills later.

SOURCE: engine fan keeps running

It's possible that the fan control relay is intermittently sticking causing the fans to run continuously. This can overheat and subsequently blow the fuse. Try replacing the relay and see if anything changes.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: mechanic said valve lifters need to be replaced

valve lifters make a kind of rattly knocking noise! which sort of follow engine revs.if they are gone you may need a new camshaft as well, best to do itr all at the same time and are sold as a kit.are you sure there is a new noise or are you just listening harder?

time for a new car.  You single handedly ruined this motor.  Don't waste anymore money on this car,  buy another car and do the prescribed maintenance as required. Think of this as an expensive lesson.

HI,I JUST SERVISED MY H100.BUT IS NOW SMOKING?

A few questions to help find the reason. Try these basic checks first.
Does the smoke give off a smell? Does the smoke linger in the air or disappear quickly? Does it come from a specific position on the engine?
When the engine is Cold use a torch to check you haven't spilled oil on the exhaust manifold or engine block when you refilled it. This gives off smelly smoke that lingers. Also check you radiator and coolant hoses for splits and damage. This gives off steam that disappears quickly.
Check you fluid levels as this can give clues to why. Start the engine and let it start to warm up to working temperature. Carefully check the engine area again. The warm, running engine will show where it's smoking and any leaks where the engine is running under pressure.
If you are in any doubt don't use the vehicle and get a Good mechanic to look at it.

I have a 2005 mazda 6 3.0 and the engine light is on it blinks when I drive and stops when I stop it also has whitest smoke coming out of the exhaust really bad. the smell of the fumes are bad in the car....

Hi, White smoke is a leak of coolant in the engine. You will have to replace the engine head gasket. This will be an expensive job.
If you do it yourself you will have to know alot. My advice is take it to a good mechanic. Good luck

Dark smelly smoke and sparks from exhaust

Black Smoke is too much fuel, Blue Smoke is Oil and White Smoke is Coolant. Sounds like the Catalytic Converter is burning itself out because of too much fuel.

Honda accord 2004 4dr ex is burning oil

If the car has not overheated before, the reason you have oil burn are the valves stem seals became hard due to the engine age and can not hold oil going through valve in the combustion chamber and mixed with fuel mixture and burned, causing your back exhaust emitting blue smelly smoke. For repair a qualified mechanic is required.

Smoke coming from exhaust when i start my truck

Hi.

If you have just a bit more of smoke than usual do a code scanning to check if mixture is rich or lean or if there is misfire or other problem that can affect the engine.

Dark thick smoke is symptom of unburned fuel or oil getting into the cylinder. The smoke can be the result of rich mixture, piston ring problems, valve problems, ring problems or misfire. EGR and PCV system problems also result in smoke from exhaust.

If smoke is only at start and it is dark gray it is probably because of incorrect mixture resulting from another problem.

If problem is piston rings or valves the smoke will be black, thick and smelly because oil gets burned in cylinders. The smoke in this case is not only at start.

  1. Check if you have spark in all cylinders.
  2. Check if one or more of the spark plugs is dirtier than the others. That will tell you if problem is with that (or those) cylinders only.
  3. Do a DTC code scanning using an OBDII reader. In US the code can be done for free at Autozone.
Thick white smoke is instead symptom of water (or coolant) getting into the cylinder. Check if the coolant fluid level is going down by itself. Look for traces of fuel in coolant reservoir. Do a compression test to find out if there is head gasket leakage inside the engine.

Regards.

There is blue smoke coming from the tail pipe. I spoke to someone about it and they said its oil in the combustion chamber. If this is the problem, how much would something like that cost to fix?

Hi there,

This advice you received is correct.

Blue smoke emmitted from the tailpipe signifies the engine is burning oil.

Possibilities are:

  • BAD RINGS - and engine with bad rings will not only burn oil, there will also be a significant loss in power, especially noticeable when driving up hill.
  • BAD VALVE STEM SEALS - with this condition, blue smoke mainly appears during acceleration.
  • Turbocharger - if your engine is fitted with a turbocharger, the seals on the turbo could be leaking.
In regards to the Bad rings and Bad valve stem seals, this may require some serious money, unless your vehicle is covered by a warranty.

For Bad rings, you will need to have a "wet compression test" done on your engine to determine if the rings are bad. Having these replaced will be expensive and in some cases, a replacement engine (with a warranty) may be an alternative option (or sell your vehicle and put your money towards another vehicle).

For Valve stem seals, I suggest only having the stem seals replaced (nothing else - don't let them talk you into any major work) to see if this cures the problem first. If blue smoke is still emitted from the exhaust, then you may be up for a major valve job, in which case you should again consider a replacement engine (with a warranty) or selling your vehicle.

Hope this helps...

Hi there, I got a Nissan Interstar Engine recently built, drove the vehicle for a day, and I have spotted a oil leak, I took it to a mechanic and he told me the rear main bearing is leaking oil, but now...

Hi, You may have done more damage than your mechanic says. The oil may have been very low to start. Bearings and valve cam needs oil. You have already burned the turbo. (lack of oil).
Good luck.

The car is emitting black smoke which is smelly. In these days (winter) when the engine is not warmed up, on starting it produce a shower of black oily water. When consulted a mechanic, he informed that...

yes and the mechanic is in error in needing a new one
carbys can be overhauled by an accredited mechanic so maybe you be taking it to another shop
the black smoke is over fuelling or the choke stuck on or out of adjustment and the water is condensation formed during the combustion process in a cold motor
get the make and model and search e-bay for carby kits

Blue smokes come out tailpipe when i start the car but stops afte

Helllo there
Symptom: Gray or blue smoke from the exhaust. You notice gray smoke coming from the exhaust when you start your car. The smoke may or may not disappear after the car is warmed. If it is, it is less noticeable. The smoke may have a bluish tint to it. Possible causes:

  1. The engine's piston rings may be worn.
The Fix: Replace piston rings. (Generally not a DIY job)
  2. The engine's valve seals may be worn.
The Fix: Replace valve seals. (Generally not a DIY job)
  3. Damaged or worn valve guides.
The Fix: Replace valve guides. (Not a DIY job)
Symptom: Engine uses more oil than normal, and there is some smoke from the exhaust. The oil level is low between oil changes. It appears that the oil is being burned by the engine because of the smoke in the exhaust. You may or may not notice the engine doesn't have the same power as it used to.
Possible causes:

  1. The PCV system is not working properly.
    The Fix: Replace PCV valve.
  2. The engine may have mechanical problems.
The Fix: Check compression to determine engine condition.
  3. The engine's piston rings may be worn.
The Fix: Replace piston rings. (Generally not a DIY job)
  4. The engine's valve seals may be worn.
The Fix: Replace valve seals. (Generally not a DIY job)
