Speedo unit died then Fuel gauge went to max

Spanish car....HELP!
Speedo unit died, then fuel gauge went to full scale(max).
Components on board on back of speedo burnt.
Is the board replaceable as a seperate part? What is it called? Part No.?

Is there a seperate voltage regulator for the instrument panel anywhere that may have failed?
No other electrical probs, blown bulbs or similar. Voltmeter in centre console shows circa 15v normally

The dash control board is the controler for the boards in the dash, fuel temp etc. inside the dash itself, a board on the rev counter controls voltage to feed the the fuel gauge etc. the back of the speedo burnt, there is the 3 pin voltage control chip on the board. you can replace the boards. you can remove them from another dash and place them into yours but if you say the board burnt out on the speedo . then i would just change the dash as it would be easier as you would need to replace the speedo as well. you will also need to inform dvla that the speedo has been changed as for mots its recorded. or have the speedo rectified to the right mileage. not informing dvla can affect your insurance.

SOURCE: Fuel gauge shows empty

The electrician could be right, I too am an electrician, and my best guess for this is the wireing, make sure all wires leading to and from are in tip top shape. Any electrician can do this, Kragen does it for free I think, and Auto Zone might do it too. But it could be a ground wire, i had a similar situation but it was with my fuel pump. ground wire was worn and lost continuity.

SOURCE: Audi A4 instrument cluster does not work

Your dash has what is known in the trade as a dry solder joint in the instrument cluster it will have to be repaired by people whom specialise in this work.
You could try BBA remanufacture as they do a lot of this type of work for us.

Dodge nitro R/T 2007 gas gauge ALWAYS says FULL

If the gas gauge of your 2007 Dodge Nitro R/T always shows a full reading, there could be a few possible causes for this issue:
  1. Faulty fuel level sensor: The fuel level sensor is responsible for measuring the amount of fuel in the tank and sending that information to the gauge on the dashboard. If the sensor is malfunctioning or stuck in the "full" position, it will consistently display a full reading on the gas gauge.
  2. Wiring or electrical issue: There might be a problem with the wiring or electrical connections between the fuel level sensor and the gauge. If there is a loose or damaged wire, it could prevent the accurate transmission of fuel level data to the gauge.
  3. Instrument cluster malfunction: The problem could be with the instrument cluster itself, where the gas gauge is located. If there is a fault in the cluster's circuitry or display, it may cause the gauge to always show a full reading.
  4. Gauge calibration issue: In some cases, the gas gauge might be improperly calibrated, resulting in it always displaying a full tank. Recalibrating the gauge might resolve the issue.
To address this problem, it is recommended to take the vehicle to a qualified mechanic or an authorized Dodge service center. They will have the necessary diagnostic tools and expertise to identify the exact cause of the issue and perform the required repairs. They may need to inspect the fuel level sensor, check the wiring connections, or evaluate the instrument cluster to resolve the problem.

Fuel gauge Stuck

The most common way to find out is to test both components.
The sending unit in most vehicles grounds the gauge on the dash.
You would unplug the sending unit - pump harness at the tank and ground the sending unit wire. If the gauge climbs up to full the sending unit is at fault.
You could also measure resistance in the circuit in the tank when the tank is close to empty and after filling it up. The resistance should be different each time.

Gas gauge reads correct when I fill it up until I've used about 7 gallons. Then the needle stays past full. What would cause this?

Hello nc girl 30: My name is Roger and I will help with your question. The most likely cause is the sending unit in the fuel tank. The tank unit tells the dash dauge where the fuel level is at. What is in the tank is a sliding scale resistor. When a bad spot forms that is where the gauge fails. To repair and replace the sending unit requires removing the fuel tank from the car. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

Fuel gauge registers full when filled with gas....drive 20mi and then drops to zero...still gas in the tank

The sender unit in the tank is the most likely cause. To test the panel unit, remove the wire from the fuel tank unit and gound it. The panel gauge needle should move up full scale to hot. Remove the wire from the ground and the gauge should return to empty. If this test is ok, the tank unit needs to be replaced.

1985 Dodge Ramcharger fuel gauge not working

The problem most likely is not the gauge itself. It could be faulty wiring between the gauge & sending unit, or most likely a bad sending unit in the tank. Visit Ramchargercentral.com, do a thread search on fuel gauge issues, and you'll find a ton of info. If you need anything clarified, post up on the vehicle help board...the members there are happy to help!
