Oil shouldn't cause this symptom. (syn. oil and reg. oil - their is only a 1 percent difference between them) a rattle noise could be a valve rocker arm OR (the rattle i had) the catylitic converter. the honey comb stuff broke up into pieces inside.

Most engines take at least 5 quarts of oil. Have you check the dip stick to see how much is in there?

Check your PCV valve (Positive Crankcase Ventilator). Normally located on a valve cover with a hose to the intake manifold. Remove it and shake it and if it does not have a rattling noise and is clogged, the valve is defective and not allowing pressure that builds up in the engine to be released through the intake manifold thereby forcing engine oil through any loose "exit" such as the dip stick tube or loose valve cover bolts, etc. This valve allows the engine to "breath" so to speak. No rattle...replace...not expensive as compared to what damage it can cause. Good luck...Ken

Rattle when accelerating and starting up

lifters lack oil/ lubrication. engine warms up oil flows better. Change oil now and go to 5W30 synthetic.

Kia optima engine ticking

sounds like lower end bearing damage (connecting rod) when oil level drops at interstate speed a connecting rod bearing will seize very quickly thus causing the bearing to spin in the rod and enlarge clearance . that is the knocking sound you here .

Rattleing nose when car first starts

could be many things but most common is lifters (valve) .Usally the best solve is use a chysler oil filter. The check valve is better then most aftermarket ones.If it has a lot of miles it may tick but only for 1 to 5 seconds.Another solution is a motor additive such as a honey they call it theres many at your parts store. If engine is dirty inside i myself have added one quart of automitic transmission oil to crankcase. It`s a detergent and will clean up things.Only one quart per change. good luck hope i helped

check the pcv valve, it will **** up oil and burn it if bad, and also check the hose to pcv valve. depending on vehicle the price for a pcv valve is very reasonable. pull out pcv valve and shake it ! if it rattles its ok. but if not replace it. have a good day !! ( positive crankcase ventilation ).

The 2.2 or 2200 four cylinder engine is bad for lifter rattle after the mileage gets up there, timing gears are also noisy in them.. I have had good luck using full synthetic oil, I would buy an engine oil flush kit with the next oil change and then use synthetic, If this noise isnt consistant with engine speed, then i would look at pumps and pulleys on the fron of the motor, sometimes AC pump clutches get squeeky and often rattle when disingaged, try turning the AC or defroster on and of to test for a change in the noise.

how many miles on it,sounds like lifter noise which is normal for high mileage jeeps, but if you have over 140k it is not a good idea to run synthetic oils as they are thinner than conv oil and it might start to consume oil.

Oil consumption, rattle, engine noise

Check under the hood and inspect the valve cover gasket. If it's bad it would explain why you don't see any leaks on the ground because it's probably burning off on the manifold. This ticking you're hearing is a lack of lubrication to the rocker arms. Apart from the valve cover gasket, you should get under the car and inspect the oil pan and oil filter for seepage. Best of luck on your problem.
