91 CHEROKEE FUEL PUMP

It is in the fuel tank, and you don fix it, you replace it. You have to drop the tank to replace it.

Disconnect fuel line and activate the fuel pump to pump out the fuel. Install an auxiliary pump to the fuel lines to suck out the fuel

i'm assuming you disconnected the fuel line and placed the line in a container to catch the fuel when observing the flow.

it might sound strange but i think there might be a leak in the tank coming from the fuel pump assembly. it's possible a tube or hose is broken on the assembly and the pump is just pumping the gas back into the tank.

there's flow because there is no pressure building up with the line disconnectedand the gas flows. when connected, pressure builds and blows out the break in the tube or hose.

The fuel pump will be located inside your gas tank which will require you to remove the straps and to drop the tank down... The filter depending on the car, will either be inside the fuel tank, or outside of it near the front of the tank.

Other issues that may cause bad idling would be a bad TPS or EGR

Use lots of wd40 on tank strap bolts. If they bigin to bind tighten them up and losen again to get rust out of threads. If you remove the straps, why not remove the fill neck and lower tank? Much easier to work that way!!!

If there is an access, it would be under the back seat,otherwise drop the tank. My friend has my manual for the towncars, and can't say for sure.

A 1996 Bronco fuel pump is in the tank. The tank will have to be dropped. After that, it's quick & easy. The filter is on the rail, not so easy even with the line removal tools. Wear safety glasses in case of any pressure.

you can try just resetting the fuel pump switch located in the car

the switch is originally in the car for in case of an accident, however, if changed, chances are you also have to reset it

in my 98 grand marquis, the switch is on the left side of the trunk

its not real hateful especially if the tank is low on fuel....you need to drop the tank out of the vehicle....the electrical connecto is on the drivers side in front of the tank mounted to the frame,,,,disconnect the fuel lines and undo the nuts holding the 2 straps...lower the tank and there is a plastic ring holding the pump in...loosen it counter clockwise and remove the pump

The fuel pump resides inside the gas tank. You need to drop the tank and upen up the top to remove the pump. The car will need to be elevated in order to have enough room to remove the tank. Be careful as any spark created will be bad!
