If you have gone to an auto shop you probably were in shock when the mechanic said you needed a cabin air filter and it was going to run anywhere from $50-$70 to replace. The filter itself is cheap. $5-$20. Your cabin air filter is going to be either behind your glove box or under the hood if you have an audi or VW. Simply open the glovebox and push in the sides so it becomes unhooked and you will see a rectangle door. Pop it open and you will see your cabin air filter. And simply reverse the steps putting the new one in!. If its a VW or Audi its at the top left of your hood if you are looking under the hood. Again there should be a box. open and replace! Happy motoring!!
Look for a big black box on drivers side of under hood area, maybe held by screws or clips, also loosen the screw on the metal clamp that is on the hose, after all is loosened / disassembled take out air filter and replace if needed, to check if filter is still able to function, put the light on top of filter and check from underneath, if you can see the light shining through the filter throughout the entire filter the filter is ok, if not replace it. Install is done same way but in reverse.
