99 TDI Jetta engine dies 3-5 seconds after startup.

I have a 99 vw jetta tdi 5 speed manual. I drove home for lunch today (took about 30 minutes) shut the car off and ate lunch (about 45 minutes). When I went to start the car  it immediately shut off with the glow plug light blinking. I tried to start the car again while pressing the gas pedal and the vehicle stayed on but the rpms fluctuated terminally as if the vehicle was desperately trying to shut off. I repeated that step 3-4 more times and then finally left the vehicle and caught a ride back to work. Three hours later I got home and started up the car only to find it working fine again. Please give me any feedback or suggestion to remedy this problem before I get stranded.

The glow plugs probably need replacing, it seems they are not heating up the gas enough.

My wife has a 2001 VW Jetta TDI, last week her windows, sunroof, interior lights stopped working, then after she drove home 15 miles they started working again, checked fuses all OK this happens about...

Probably best to have the convenience system scanned by a dealer or VW specialty shop. Sometimes a door lock mechanism fails and doesn't recognize that it's been unlocked.

2000 Jetta TDI: How do I change spark plugs on 2000 VW jetta 2.0...

You're in the TDI (diesel) solutions section so it uses glow plugs.
If it's a petrol engine 2.0L then it would be accessible above and below intake manifold using a swivel spark plug deep socket.

Check for power and ground to left (large) radiator fan with test light. If power and ground to connector are ok, replace faulty fan.

03 jetta shut off while driving.

Check the load reduction relay. I had this happen twice and repaired twice on my TDI mk IV. It throws no codes and almost has to be witnessed by a mechanic to be believed.

Accelerator Loss

From my experience in owning a VW it souns electrical. Most issues with VWs are electrical related. Most likely a realy of some type. Could also be fuel injection but that is electronic too.
