My SLK 280 2006 is showing the Check engine light ON and the gear not changing neither by automatic drive or tiptronic drive. checking by computer fault log it shows first the O2 sensor malfunctioning. I change it and the problem appears again after 2 days. Again checking the fault log and it shows the speed sensor malfunctioning. I am not sure ! any idea??

Replace the speed sensor as it controls the shifting of the transmission. When replacing any units the fault s will continue to reappear unless you have the CPU reset by a fault code reader.

SOURCE: code PO131

Code PO131 is O2 sensor circuit low voltage , bank 1, sensor 1. That sensor I would say is the one in the exhaust manifold. I would check voltage to the sensor from the computer. If the voltage is not 5 volts, then it could be a computer problem or a wiring problem. I have seen factory wiring and connectors give a voltage problem. Check for a damaged or burnt, pinched wire. You need to know for sure that the voltage is correct to the sensor. Intermittent problems are hard to trace , but patience and knowledge helps.

SOURCE: i have a toyota rav4 2003 management light came on

The upper sensors are air fuel sensors and the lower ones are o2 sensors. you cant mix these up. Assuming you did everything right and still coding then either the new sensor b1s2 is bad or the wirng(power and ground need to be checked. A scan tool can be used to look at the performance of the sensors too. Sometimes the codes just point to the area of the problem and changing the part isn't the answer.

SOURCE: check engine light on, replaced oxygen sensor before catalyst,

  • Water or corrosion in the connector
  • Loose terminals in the connector
  • Wiring burnt on exhaust components
  • Open or short in the wiring due to rubbing on engine components
  • Holes in exhaust allowing unmetered oxygen into exhaust system
  • Unmetered vacuum leak at the engine
  • Bad o2 sensor
  • Bad PCM

What is a tiptronic transmission?

A Tiptronic gearbox is almost an in-between of a manual and automatic car. It is basically an automatic gearbox that gives you the ability to change your gears manually. This allows you to have greater control than with an automatic and can be especially useful for going uphill. This is actually a fairly common feature in European cars and even some Japanese ones too. The difference between a Tiptronic gearbox and an automatic one is that Tiptronic ones have an option to switch out of its automatic mode so it will work like a manual car when you choose. Some newer models have safety features in places so it limits the speed of the car when it is in certain gears so it doesn't damage the car which is something to consider.

I have a 2005 Mazda 2 automatic, with tiptronic. The car refuses to leave park, even after the car has sat idling for 15mins. Foot on brake, hand brake off and it will not budge. Any suggestions? Also,...

the park problem will be a faulty brake sensor or switch that is not energizing the solenoid for the park unit
dropping back a gear indicates problems in wiring and connections , TR or VSS sensors or problem TCM
any or all of these units will leave a code so have the faulty codes read by accredited automatic transmission specialists and have them fixed

2002 Montero Sport 4X2 jerks during and after shifting into 3rd or fourth gear. Particularly bad going uphill. Not so bad during hard acceleration. Have changed fuel filter, plugs, etc. Even changed center...

Check the 'U' joints in the drive line. Check the engine/transmission mounts for damage or looseness. The real enigma is trying to determine if this is an engine or a chassis problem. If the check engine light is on, doing a scan of the computer should show engine problems. If no light, concentrate on anything in the chassis for periodic binding. Good luck!

Audi a4 autotransmission change fluid

The automatic cars (at least the tiptronics, which came out in 98) require the transmission to be up to a specific temperature, which must be monitored while changing the fluid - this requires VagCom, the VW/Audi diagnostic software (I'm not making this up). I am not sure whether the non-tiptronic cars had to have this as well or if it can be done as any other transmission - best bet is to call a European specialty mechanic and ask them - a dealer will kill you with labor rates. Do not just drain and refill though, without finding out first whether the VagCom procedure must be used.
