1991 Ford F150-Manual Transmission- Key for ignition turns with no resistance. I can't start the truck or turn it off. I can start it with the clutch. And, I have to also use the clutch to stop the engine. While running, I can turn key back to "lock" position and pull the key out (truck still running).

It's been a day since I posted my question. I have browsed the internet & found several forums, etc. about the same issue. I've found that the "ignition acuator" is what provides the resistance when turning the ignition key. So, I tore down the steering column on my dads truck & found the "ignition actuator" broken in two different places. I still have to finish getting the old one out, but, I did find the problem.

I now have my dads truck fixed. I put in a new "ignition actuator". I had issues getting the key cylinder, gear, actuator gear mechanism, and ignition switch to line up correctly. Everything has to be exact for it to work right. The ignition actuator had broken with the ignition switch in the "run" position, which allowed it to be started by popping the clutch. It is fixed & starts now.

SOURCE: My key is stuck in the ignition. Won't lock.

Have you tried depressing the " Brake pedal", turning steering wheel to centre position and then placing lever into PARK, before attempting to remove key?

1991 f150 starts but must hold key on to stay running i turned key on and off atleast 100 times to rid my tank of bad gas also i'am running off my battery

It sounds like you need to replace the ignition starter switch, the symptom you have is an exact fit, most models of Ford where recalled years ago for this problem.. The starter switch is at the base of the steering column under the dash and operated by a rod from the ignition key tumbler. Very cheap and easy to replace.

There is a linkage in the steering column which interlocks with the ignition switch. On a vehicle this age, and given that Ford is prone to this problem, look here first. The pot-metal linkage rod often breaks.

Where is the fuel shut off switch on 1991 ford 150?

On a 1991 F-150 the Fuel Shut Off Switch is located on the left and above where the steering column passes through the floorboard.

1. Turn the Key in the ignition to OFF.
2. Push the Red Reset Button on the Fuel Pump Shut Off Switch
Down.
3. Turn the ignition Key ON for a few seconds, Then turn it OFF,
Now try to start it.

Ignition will not start truck

There is a sliding actuator that is in the steering column. It is spring loaded, this is what provides the resistance when you turn the key. It's what the rod that connects to the key lock assembly leads to. The bad news is that you have 2 choices, replace the steering column or destroy the cover to get to it. Sorry to tell you that.
