Heat & Air fan works sometimes and sometimes it does not.

  • yourcarolina May 04, 2009

Mine works correctly sometime but most of the time it has a mind of it's own.

It will blow on high when it is set on low, etc...

Sometimes it doesn't work at all. I will replace the resistor and see if that fixes the problem.

    Kindest thanks!!

Does it work on some speeds or does it just shut off all of the sudden? Are there any other details? BMW does have a problem with he fan speed resistor or how BMW calls it the "final stage" acting funny But more info would be helpfull

The final stage resistor on all BMW blower motors controls everything (power and grond ) 99% of blower motor issues is the resistor. not to hard to install either.

SOURCE: 2001 BMW 330i..Fan for AC/vent not working?

it's either a fuse or it's a bad blower motor, it could be a bad blower motor resistor but usually you'll get either high or low only, so if you have nothing on any speed, high low etc, and all the fuses are ok chances are it's your blower motor.

SOURCE: 2001 BMW 330i..Fan for AC/vent not working?

The problem is the ac resistor located on the passenger side of the center console. It's a little difficult to get to but not impossible. If i remember correctly it cost about 100.00$ from your BMW dealer. If you do a internet search for problems with BMW a/c you will find many post and fixes. BMW has made 3 revisions to this resistor over the past few years. If replacing this parts does not fix it then the only other cause will be the climate control module located in your climate control display. This is a very expensive part.Remove the plastic cover behind the glove box (passenger side) look toward the drivers side close to the bulkhead and it will be there, disconnect the plug, release the clip and pull back gentally (don't break the clips!) it's pretty easy.
Good Luck

I have a 2001 BMW 330I. My problem is with the heat blower. It works on and off. It goes on for a while then turns off by itself. Then out of nowhere, it goes on again! And so on... What is the solution,...

If the blower is the one cutting off iether at AC/heater mode, it could be a faulty fan resistor. To replace it, you have to take off RH side front kick panel, foot air vent and use torx bit.

2001 BMW 330ci Blower Fan quit working

sounds like the resister for the fan is failing. it is located under the dash on the duct work for the blower (fan). you will see two wires going to it. unscrew the bolts or screws that hold it in and replace it with a new one. it should work fine after that.

How to change a fule pump for a 330i 2001 BMW?

Assuming you are going to perform a DIY, I would not recommend replacing it with an aftermarket unit. Stick with OEM. There are several BMW dealerships that are competitive with online pricing for the part. Try Circle BMW, Pacific BMW, Hendricks BMW, or RealOEM, Bavarian Autosport.

There are several online forums that can provide you with DIY instructions. Two in particular are www.e46fanatics.com or www.bimmerfest.com

I have found the best resource for repairs is the Bentley E46 repair manual. It's expensive, but it will pay for itself with your first DIY repair based on labor savings alone. You can purchase it at Bavarian Autosport (www.bavauto.com) or you can purchase it from the publisher.

Hope that helps!
