Question about 2001 Audi A6

Dim Dashboard read

My dashboard readout, (not sure what the technical term is), is going dim. I'm talking about the area where it displays fuel consumption, radio, outside temp, etc. The same thing happened w/ my 1999 A6, and to others I have spoken to. What can I do to return it to a good solid readout? How much is a replacement module?

Thanks, but that's not the problem. I have the dimmer switch as high as it will go. The lights or switch or whatever definitely needs replacing. I was hoping to hear from some Audi owners who have experienced the same situation, and what the solution is/was.

On most vehicles you have a dimmer switch ( not talking about headlights) which you can adjust how bright or how dim the dashboard lights are because some people want them bright and others prefer dim either check your owners manual or check all around for it from drivers seat ( within drivers reach) when you find it if you can't adjust it then you want to consider replacing dash lights or switch.

My car has a dimmer switch as you describe. That is not the problem since it is on as bright as it will go and I still can't see the LED read out. The radio, and heater LED are also dim during the day so they cannot be seen. They are fine at night. If I drive my car out of the garage there is no display until I turn the car off and then turn it on again sometimes it comes on. I think it is related to the part of the car that automatically turns the lights on at dark but am not sure.

I noticed the problem too. I found that after keeping the car shaded from sun or at least a dash sun guard the dash remains bright as soonas the sun beats down the dash goes dim.

The odometer work the light for the number is very dim can hardly read it

The bulb may need replacing or you have a power drain. Does any other of the instruments/display appear dim at times? If so, that could indicate a power drain.

If you can, remove the necessary bits of the dashboard to get at the odometer bulb and replace it.

Be aware - on some vehicles getting at the bulb can entail a lot of work

Why would the radio display light be out? also need a clear ez to read fuse box display for inside fuse box

Because the bulb(s) are blown - is one guess. Most factory radio lighting is tied to the dashboard lights. You can tell for sure if the radio lighting used to dim when you adjust the dashboard lighting intensity. If they were separate, then it could be a problem with a connection at the back of the radio or internal.

Center light on dashboard dims on my 1999 Jeep Cherokee - what could be causing this to happen?

One of your backlight bulbs might have burned out. Not sure on your exact model but these are usually easy and inexpensive to replace yourself. Is it just dim in one area?

Dim Dashboard Lights

I think this indicates that you have an exterior light out. Check the tail lights, brake lights and the three bulbs that are mounted at the top of the rear window.
